Teaser Excerpt from Tarnish...
“You and George were always close,” Wyatt says quietly. “Always together as children. He told me once you slept in the same bed.”
I glance up at him. Is he jealous?
“A closeness forged in the iron of my father’s will.”
“Your father doted on you.”
I manage to suppress a snort.
“When I was six.”
“No more doting?”
I have to look away from the sympathy in his eyes.
“When I was six, I was his clever little girl,” I say, studying the light on the topiary leaves, concentrating hard to keep the pain from my voice. “But I grew up away from him. I came home from France thin and unnoticed, certainly unbeautiful, surpassed in my father’s affections by my pretty, easy sister and her capacity to earn him accolades.”
“Your voice is sweet, but your words are bitter.”
“My words. Everyone tells me my words are wrong. Aren’t you really saying it’s me?”
He tilts my chin back to face him and gazes at me unspeaking, his narrow features serious.
“It is just something I think you should mind, Anne,” he says softly. “Your words will be your downfall.”

As if that wasn't amazing enough, Katherine stopped by to give us insight into her inspiration while writing Anne Boleyn. This almost brings tears to my eyes...no lie. I love this woman of history...and Katherine for writing her :)
INSPIRATION
I had a very difficult time writing TARNISH because of my historical hindsight—I know what happens to Anne, and I didn’t want to push her in that direction. The more I wrote and the deeper I got into my fictional character, the more I loved her and wanted to protect her. But there is no protecting Anne Boleyn from history.
However, my hindsight also gave me ample opportunity for historical foreshadowing. In this book, Anne’s words do get her into trouble—and they get her what she wants. But in the end—historically—they do incriminate her in the eyes of those who wished to bring her down. Her words are her downfall, as Wyatt predicts.

YEAY. I can't wait! Gilt was an okay book, but Anne Boleyn is by far my favorite character to read about. I love this period! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that Tarnish is good! I've been looking forward to this one for so long it seems... Gilt was a favorite of mine from last year. Thanks so much for sharing this giveaway! *fingers crossed* :D

I love how much you love historical fiction, particularly the Tudor stuff. It's kind of infectious and I love that about you! I have Gilt on my shelf and sadly I haven't read it yet! (Don't hit me!) This cover is beautiful. I've read an interview or guest post or something before from this author that I loved, about her writing process and how hard she tries to get into the heads of her characters, and it really makes me want to try and carve out time for these books. Anyway, great post, friend!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you loved Tarnish! I adored Gilt and I can't wait to get my hands on this book!!
