Top Ten Books I'm Kicking Myself in the Face for Not Reading Sooner...

Freebie time!! Thanks The Broke and the Bookish for always being lovely hosts. So I'm not very good at thinking of topics that haven't been done yet but when I write reviews, especially on books that have been recommended to me, a common theme seems to occur...I question myself constantly on WHY THE HELL DIDN'T I READ THIS SOONER!? This has been happening a lot lately. Mostly due to Book Rock Betty and her phenomenal taste in books. So here it is. Top Ten Books I'm Kicking Myself in the Face for Not Reading Sooner...

The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead & Dark Lover by J.R. Ward--All hail Betty for ruining my life and making me obsess over yet another handful of books. These are the biggest culprits of the list. I AM OBSESSED WITH THESE NOW! Holy hell. I read the entire Vampire Academy series in a week and I'm steadily making my way through the Black Dagger Brotherhood. These books are so amazing and I figuratively kick myself in the face repeatedly for not reading these sooner.

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa (Review)--Faeries...um, ok. But for real! These are so good! The love story is epic and the faery world is enchanting and haunting. I promise, I NEVER thought I would like a book about faeries but trust me when I say I am a convert. These books are amazing and if I can like them...you can too :)

If I Stay by Gayle Forman (Review)--Another one I heard so many good things about but didn't believe the hype...oh how wrong I was. This book broke my soul and kept me wanting more. It is so sad but beautiful and I just fell in love with Adam and Mia over and over again.

Birthmarked by Caragh O'Brien (Review)--I never really heard of this book until the Fierce Reads tour was stopping near me and when I found out Caragh was going to be at a signing I was like, sure, why not I'll give it a shot...to say I was obsessed with reading these is an understatement. I conned my way out of work and left early in order to read the second book of the series...I had an sickness and it was book obsession. These kinds of books that you just stumble upon and get pissed knowing they existed in the world and you had no idea.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare (Review)--I know what you're all thinking, I LOVE the Mortal Instruments, how would I even hesitate on the Clockwork series...but it is because of how much I LOVE TMI that I hesitated. I was like uh, HOW could it even compare to TMI...insert foot in mouth, I love these books even better. The historical aspect. Will Herondale. The London setting. Will Herondale. For real, Will will always be my #1 book boyfriend and that is almost an IMPOSSIBLE title to claim. I have a lot of book boyfriends. Although after knowing Betty, Dimitri and Zsadist are in a close battle for second...or first...shit...

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak--I know...I KNOW. With how critically acclaimed this book is how did I not die waiting to read it...I don't know the synopsis sounded just meh to me...And then I, AGAIN, kick myself for being to stupid. This book changed my life. The narration is one of the most unique and beautiful I have ever read in my life. Few books compare.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness--I had heard about this book for awhile but the size made me nervous. It is RARE that I can start a book and not finish. I will power through almost anything so if I start a book I have to commit. This book blew me away. The paranormal aspect is so cool. The characters are brilliant. And Matthew de Clairmont lays claim to a piece of my heart. The history involved with the lore of this tale is amazing and I LOVE these books.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte--Again, the size scared me. The style of writing made me nervous but I wanted to give it a shot. I could not put this book down. The flow and writing made the story breathe and I just adore this novel. Even if your'e not into classics I still recommend this book. It is just lovely.

The Lady of the Rivers by Philippa Gregory (Review)--I know! This sounds crazy because I LOVE historical fiction and all Tudor and Plantagenet history but Jaquetta just didn't sound interesting to me...how wrong I was. Her story is one of strength and survival with a little bit of fate, magic and destiny  mixed in. AND she and her husband have one of the best love stories ever told. They make me sigh...

  4. Let me start off by saying that the title of your topic had me laughing out loud, especially when I tried to picture myself kicking myself in the face. I'm on cold meds... don't mind me. :P

I have not read ANY of these, so I'm off to go look them up! If they are worth a kick in the face, I must investigate. Great list!

  12. The Book Thief and Jane Eyre are amazing! But I totally get how some books just seem too much to tackle. I still can't get myself to read Wuthering Heights.

  20. Haha. There are so many books that, once I read them, I couldn't believe that I hesitated to read them. And I still need to read a lot of the books on this list. Particularly VA. Everyone says the books are amazing, and that the series just gets better and better.

  21. I totally agree with If I Stay, I took it out of the library a few times before I actually read and then I just wanted to smack myself. I actually haven't read The Book Thief, but judging by how much people seem to like it and the crazy looks I get when I tell people I haven't read it I'm guessing that will be a future smack-my-stupid-self book :)

  22. I have lots of books like this too. Vampire Academy and The Iron King both belong in that category. And I just picked up Clockwork Angel, which will be one of my next reads. One good thing about waiting to read a good book that's part of a series is that you get to read the series all at once - no waiting a year for that next book to come out!
