Goodreads Description
They come first.
My vision was growing dimmer, the blackness and ghosts closing in. I swore it was like I could hear Robert whispering in my ear: The world of the dead won't give you up a second time. Just before the light completely vanished, I saw Dimitri's face join Lissa's. I wanted to smile. I decided then that if the two people I loved most were safe, I could leave this world.
The dead could finally have me.
Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.
Now the law has finally caught up with Rose - for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.
But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back...and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?

My Thoughts
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ALL PREVIOUS BOOKS AND THIS ONE...IF YOU HAVE NOT READ IT WILL BE RUINED, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
*sniff* It's over?...It's really over? Holy book hangover, I am gonna spiral into a book depression. These books are soooo amazing. Yes, I'm kicking myself in the face for waiting this long. As with all my other reviews for this series, this one will suck. I am a spaz when writing them. I just can't get all my thoughts into a coherent stream and sound like a fool. I babble but the babbling is mean to convey ALL THE FEELS! Ugh, I just love love love these books. Thank you Betty, you are a true friend for making me read these knowing I will love them :)
This book was a perfect final chapter to our amazing characters. Lissa is coming into her own and might actually become the Queen we all know she is very capable of being. This girl is so solid. Opinionated, smart, level-headed, passionate, fair--she would the most fabulous Queen. Her journey through the trials is such a great piece to this story. We see her strength that she has fought so hard to get. She is no longer the weak one. She is strong in her own right. Love.
Now let's get to the good stuff. Rose escapes from jail with the help of all her friends and hits the road with Dimitri *squeal!* to hideout until they can clear her name...yeah, that lasts for all of 30 seconds. They meet up with Sydney and Rose develops a plan to find Lissa's half-brother or sister in order to give her a voting right in Court. They meet many obstacles along the way. The sexual tension between Rose and Dimitri is beyond palpable. Dimitri starts to finally come around and be his normal self and it is like ugh, finally! The wall begins to crumble and with each piece of him that is put back together we get an amazingly fantastic and tender moment between Rose and Dimitri. After 6 books, a few false starts, and lots of sexual tension...they finally see each other for what they are. The perfect complement to their soul. The line that Sonya says about their aura had my heart beating a little faster. It is just too sweet and perfect. As you'll see in my texts, I agree with Betty. I would have liked a little more passion and heat but hey, 6 books filled with build-up, I'll take what I can get at this point, as long as they are together. *sigh*
Have I mentioned how much I love these two? I just do. They are badass warriors who love each other completely and really get each other. I just can't get enough. FINALLY. I am just ecstatic the book ended how it did. They final few scenes with them? Swoon!! Abe calling Dimitri the newest member of the family brought tears to my eyes. They are adorable.
I am sad to see how hurt Adrian was but for real, it was coming the whole time. I do not agree with how Rose strung him along, it was wrong. The poor bastard really loved her and she just could never get into it. I can't blame her because her heart always lay elsewhere...but it doesn't make me feel less bad for Adrian. He deserved better. I DO agree with Rose giving him the business and saying he can't play victim and that's why they would never work out. I was like, whoa! Brutal but so true. I love Adrian but I also can't get behind a man who does nothing to protect himself. I love a strong and assertive guy who can take care of business. Man up, bro.
The ongoing story of Moroi taking charge of their own lives and fighting with their magic is amazing. The arc of this story line along with the whole idea of sacrificing yourself for the greater good is inspiring. The guardians are so selfless. It is just incredible. The love these characters share between one another is beautiful. Romantic, parental, platonic, it is all just breathtaking and beautiful. I love them all. I am SO sad to be done with the series. It is definitely a catch-22 because I could not read fast enough wanting to know what happens yet I never wanted it to end.
Gah, I know I am missing and forgetting SO much of what I wanted to talk about but my emotions are such a jumble but to the point. I love these books. I cannot believe I went so long without reading them. I am an idiot. Plain and simple. Love these books. I love all of you who have read them. I just...sigh...love love love.
Should You Read This? ..........
*sigh* Thus ends my Vampire Academy experience and my (hilarious) thoughts in texts :) Sad to see it end but hey...We all know I'm a fan of the re-read. Until next time :)
Crying for real. This book is probably my favorite of the entire series (or maybe that's Shadow Kiss) because Rose and Dimitri are perfection, but also because I just really love the plot. I LOVE that they thought she was a murderer and the mystery and Dimitri and Sydney and Lissa and Christian and everything and gahhhhhhhhhhh.

I did NOT see the Tasha thing coming. What a bitch. I actually LIKED her. Not really but a bit.
