My Thoughts
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ALL PREVIOUS BOOKS AND THIS ONE...IF YOU HAVE NOT READ IT WILL BE RUINED, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Gosh, son of a, holy crap. Honestly, each book, each book it gets worse emotionally. I always think it can't get any worse for me emotions and each book builds on the last one and then kicks you in the throat. The other books broke my heart and this one is no exception.
So plot-wise--frickin' fantastic, like always. Rose graduates, kicks MAJOR ass on her trials and goes to Court with Lissa. We get to see Rose and Adrian's relationship develop which I really liked! I love Adrian. Do I think he is the right guy for Rose? Well, no but I adore him! SO happy he gets a spin-off series, seriously. We also get more facetime with Janine and Abe. LOVE THIS! Sorry not sorry but it is beyond entertaining anytime Abe in the story. Love love love. From graduation, Rose, Lissa and Eddie make an escape from Court to...dun dun duh...free Victor in order to get to his brother who knows how to bring a Strigoi back to life. A;LSDKFJWEI. OH MY GOSH, can this really work?!? Shit, I hope so.
One of my favorite parts of this book, in a happy sense, is Lissa. FINALLY. Slowly but surely each book Lissa finds more and more strength inside her. This is the first book in the series where she actively goes out of her way to do something for Rose. She was always there for her, of course, but Lissa taking the initiative and wanting to learn how to stake a Strigoi and bring Dimitri back is inspiring. This girl kicked major ass in this book and while I liked her throughout the series, this one really brought it home for me.
And Lissa's shining moment in this book?...She uses her special spirit infused stake and stakes Dimitri...bringing him back to life...OH MY GOSH YES!!!! Rose and Dimitri then have this amazingly passionate and heart-wrenching reunion where they run to each and share the best kiss in the history of kisses...oh no...wait, they don't. What the fuck?! What happens? He refuses to see her...hello, heart ripping in half. I was legit tearing up at this point. It hurt my chest. He looked at Lissa like she was an angel fallen from Heaven and Rose...meh. Bullshit! Total bullshit. You know what she did to bring you back, comrade? Cuz I don't think you do. Lissa was the period at the end of a sentence, Rose did EVERYTHING else. Oh I was so mad. Of course, it is because he can't bear to look at her because of everything he did. She doesn't care. I wouldn't either. She knows it wasn't him. He has to play the self-righteous bastard that he is and tries to push her away "for her own good." Ugh, frustrating!
Rose does not give up without a fight. She tries to make him see how much she cares for him...he continues to break her heart. She tries to give her all to Adrian and...shoo. The scene they have together...wowza. I love Dimitri but this scene is totally hot and I was fanning myself. Adrian is a sexy vamp and I love him. Can't wait for more of him in Bloodlines...rawr.
I love that Rose tries to move on but at the same time still hoping for a reconciliation. I love that FINALLY at the end there is a small turning point in their relationship and he fights to defend her. Obvi. This Russian just can't stay away from defending her. He loves you. We all know it. He just doesn't act on it. Idiot. And the end?!? Oh my gosh, I NEVER saw that coming!! Again, just when you think you can't be any more surprised we get slapped in the face. Mead is the QUEEN of cliffhangers and twisting story lines that keep you on your toes. Holy hell, this last book is going to KILL me. Can't wait to see how our story wraps up and ends...ugh, I'm gonna be so sad :(
Should You Read This? Ask me a serious question.
Ugh, these damn books kill me! Shadow Kiss is one of my favorite books EVER! The ENDING! I had to wait a whole damn year to read the next book (and each book after that). It was freaking torture!
