When I saw BOTM was going to have THE BOYFRIEND PROJECT as one of their picks I knew I had to get it. Three women figure out they’re dating the same scumbag and become friends? Yes, please. While the friendship, oddly, was the weakest part of the story for me, I still enjoyed how much they supported each other, lifted each other up, and hyped each other for their individual endeavors. Samiah is a tech genius who wants to start her own app and Daniel is a new employee at the company she works for...or is he? The added element of a mystery and why Daniel has this job elevated the story for me and gave it another layer of plot I wasn’t expecting but really enjoyed.
Samiah and Daniel’s chemistry was too pure for this world. I adored them! Daniel would coincide getting his coffee whenever Samiah was at the coffee bar and while he thought he was being so smooth, she had his number in the best way. I liked that their flirtation started as friendship and evolved into more, it just had this beautiful innocence to it that isn’t often found with adult romance. Another standout characterization for me was their kindness. I was swooning with what a great guy Daniel was and also with how much he loved Samiah’s generous heart as well. I also loved the conversation of how much harder Samiah has had to work to be where she is because she is not only a woman in the tech industry but a woman of color. This isn’t something I’ve ever had to overcome but my heart went out to her and every person who has had to prove their capability. It’s not fair but it made me love her and her drive that much more. I was rooting for her along with her new friends and I can’t wait for future books!
If you’re looking for a sweet romance between two people who lead with kindness, this book is for you! And I also personally loved the author’s acknowledgments and the Scripture she quoted, it made me love even that much more!
