My Thoughts
Oh the tangled web you weave Sydney. Wow. I have been patiently--not so patiently--waiting for Sydney to get that tree trunk out of her ass and just be. The Indigo Spell did that for me. Holy happenings, Batman. Ok.
I wanna talk about Sydney first and foremost because she continues to grow on me and I love her even more with every book. She without a doubt, came into her own in this book. I loved seeing her character and inner strength develop. I loved seeing her question the Alchemists and rebel against the brainwashing--sorry, beliefs--that she was brought up with. I loved seeing her RELAX and let go a little bit. And let me tell you, it wasn't much at first but it was something. She is experimenting with magic of her own free will and she is doing things she never thought she would. Gah, I couldn't get enough! You go girl! Favorite part of the story. Watching Sydney make her own choices and really come into her own was beautiful...not to mention me yelling FINALLY over and over again in my head :)
The drama continues to unfold with our little misfit band of outcasts. We get a darker side of the magical world. A conflicting view of what we believed the Alchemists were supposed to be AND some rebel Alchemists to boot! TOO good! I loved reading how the story line bobbed and weaved so many different elements and seemingly individual plot points all together. While I wish we could have gotten a little more of Eddie and Jill into the story line, the side plot they were involved in seemed a little too periphery and didn't really result in much (you know what I'm talking about if you've read it). I would really enjoy some more Eddie action in the next book...accompanied by Jill, of course :)
Ok, let's get to the juicy stuff. Oh the angst of the Sydney and Adrian seesaw. Up, down, up down, all around...well you know what I mean. The push and pull these two put each other through makes you both so happy and so frustrated because juuuuust when things seem to be getting good its like BAM! Richelle Mead is like, NO bad reader you do not get a happy ending yet...allknerl;kajdfvi. The angst was palpable. I was feeling right along with Adrian and Sydney. The impossibility of the situation. The desire to say eff, all the consequences. The painful realization that that isn't the best choice. Gah, it was so much to deal with. While I will not ruin the ending because SO MUCH HAPPENS. I did have a nice little collective sigh when a few things finally got resolved.
I cannot WAIT to see what happens next. Sydney and Adrian are like the damned Vampire version of Romeo and Juliet...but shit, I'm crossing my fingers that Richelle does not wanna go all Shakespearean with this series and there is a lot less bloodshed when we get to our ending.
Should You Read This? Uh...yeah. Is that seriously a question at this point?
