love,
able to withstand
time

distance
and
disagreements.
No wonder I wanted it so badly."

My Thoughts
Oh snap, yo!! Shit just got real and it got real in Heart. This book may have been even better than the first, rare when that happens, eh? But for serious, things picks up pretty quickly from where we left off in the first book. Ana and the rest of the citizens of Heart are mourning terribly over what happened during Templedark. Ana's getting a lot of mixed reviews from people and she has NO idea what to make of what Menehem left her. Ok so SO much happens in this book it will be difficult to discuss specific things without giving away the story so I'll do my best.
First, we learn sooo much more about Janan and the history and the memory lapses people have and how the hell all this came to be. We get more glimpses into phoenixes, the land surrounding Heart, and the sylph?!?! Ermagosh! It is uh-maaaaayzing. I loved learning all the inner workings and facets of what made this society. There are still a good amount of unanswered questions but A LOT is discussed and wrapped up leaving juuuust the right amount for us to be kept wondering what will happen but not so much that you worry that the last book will be a disappointment. I am so freakin' excited to read the last book, eep!
Sam and Ana. Holy freaking amazing. I looooove these two. Oh their relationship just feels so real with all of their ups and downs. *sigh* They are just perfect. They fight over very real issues and have a lot of things between them (approximately five thousand years for starters but I digress) that they need to address. I loved these conversations. They worked through their problems and were hands down, all their cards on the table still there for each other at the end of the day. Sam forsake so much to be with her which just proves how much he does truly love her...oh hey Stef, turns out he does settle...for the right girl...
...SPEAKING of Stef...oh girlfriend better watch her reincarnated ass because I wanted to kick it in this lifetime and the next...and maybe one more after that. Oooh, her sly little backhanded comments and passive-aggressive behavior made me want to throttle her. Back. Up. The. Train. He loves ANA. He chooses ANA. He's had five thousand years to be romantically interested take a note from a book I am very well acquainted with that HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU. *phew* ok, I'm better now. My rage for fictional characters has been sated with this paragraph. I'm good now.
Ana's journey into taking a stand for the newsouls is just freakin' fantastic. I loved it. She is strong. And well-spoken. And wants so badly for so many wrongs to be made right. She knows how important it is to fight for the rights of newsouls because uh, hello, they're people too. Why this concept is so hard to grasp for some characters is beyond me but hey, otherwise we'd have no book and that would NOT be ok. I love this concept being explored further with Ana being physically threatened just because she was born. Again, we get the human rights idea developed a lot more and I love it. Such a smart and unique way to take on this topic and I give mad props to Jodi Meadows for tackling this issue. Same with Cadet of Tildor, you can't help what you were born...or that you were born at all. Cannot wait to see where this go in the final book...dun dun dun.
This was such a fantastic follow-up to Asunder the only regret I have reading it is that I did not wait until I had all 3 books handy. I can't wait to see where Ana and Sam's journey concludes and what will happen to them as far as reincarnation and the life beyond.
Should You Read? If you've read Incarnate--uh duh! If you have not, go read it! Such a unique concept and idea, it is too good not to. And we only have one lifetime so I would get on this one right quick :)
