After Hannah raved about this audiobook from Hoopla and seeing it everywhere on Instagram, I was SO excited to read it! A woman who creates a dating app and the foibles of online dating? Sign me up! From the start, I was enchanted. I fell right into the story and loved Rhiannon's thoughts and way of thinking. I thought Sampson was charming and definitely a diamond in the rough in regards to single men in this world, fictional or non. Their banter and snark had me laughing out loud while listening.
The friendship between Rhiannon and Katrina was so great! They were there for each other, understood each other's insecurities and graceless moments, and were honest with one another. One of my favorite things to say to my best friend when she's telling it to me straight is, 'Don't tell me rational things I don't want to hear.' So when Katrina tells Rhiannon some hard truth and she responded with, 'Shut your perfect, beautiful mouth," I was lost in love! These two were just GREAT!
Rhiannon herself also really won me over. I found her reactions to be honest and align with her cynical view of dating and men in general, something I could definitely relate to. While I wanted her to let go and believe in Sampson, I also know in real life as a friend I would have backed up her actions. The beautiful world of books gives us the benefit of the doubt and know where his true intentions lie, unfortunately real life is not caught up to the fictional world yet. Le sigh. Read this book if you love some technological love and want to right swipe on humor and friendship!
After loving THE RIGHT SWIPE, I immediately downloaded GIRL GONE VIRAL; I was so intrigued by Katrina and her bodyguard and everything going on there because why does this woman need a bodyguard, hmmmm? I adored Katrina and found her intelligence captivating, her kindness much needed in this world, and her anxieties endearing and relatable. Jas' love of her from afar was so sweet, I loved reading about their history and how honorable he was while working for her. Their tense and withheld emotions for one another really brought a great tension to the romance.
The commentary on social media and privacy after Katrina goes viral for talking to a guy in a cafe was much needed. It's relevant and in this world where everything is online it seems like true privacy is a thing of the past sadly. I loved how this was dealt with and felt like it is such a great discussion point and had me thinking what my thoughts are on the topic. I definitely lean more towards Katrina and her views on privacy, I like to also keep my real personal life closer to the chest but everyone is different! I loved binging these two books and already look forward a re-read, I also hope their other fabulous roommate gets a story of her own!
