WHAT I Remember
A mostly badass heroine. A lack of emotional connection. Wonky pacing. A really great ending.
WHY I Wanted to Re-Read
Because I'm a stubborn mule and refuse to accept a Beauty and the Beast re-telling I don't love. I read it the first time on the bus while I was in Europe so I was hoping it was a victim of circumstance and reading it again would give me a different experience
HOW I Felt After Re-Reading
I liked it so much more! It's not my favorite re-telling by any means and I still had some issues with it but I wanted a more emotional understanding of the characters and that's what I got. Nyx and Ignifex have a fire that can't be doused and I really loved the fact that I could enjoy it this time. I still find the pacing a little off and the writing to be extremely pretentious if I'm being honest but it was still lovely. It gives us a great visual of the world but it was more than a little verbose unnecessarily more times than not.
WOULD You Re-Read Again?
Probably not. I'm glad that I don't have a 2 star rating in my head anymore about this but this isn't my favorite re-telling or a favorite book and I wanted to see if re-reading would change my opinion. It did and this is a win for the challenge.
