"The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames.
I am the mockingjay.
The one that survived despite the Capitol's plans.
The symbol of the rebellion."

Goodreads Description
Sparks are igniting.
Flames are spreading.
And the Capitol wants revenge.
Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.
Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

Ok y'all. So it seems to me a ton of final books in series I LOVE all came out in October...while I was gone...nice. Many of you know that I love re-reading books, especially in a series if a new one comes out. I also like to re-read the book before the movie comes out. After thinking about it I didn't want to just write a review for these books I've already read but I wanted to pay some tribute--see what I did there?--to how much I love these books. Catching Fire, obviously, being one of them. I am OBSESSED with The Hunger Games. I read all three in a span of 2 1/2 days. I did nothing else. Like many of you, I fell in love with Katniss and her story. The themes Suzanne Collins presents and discusses is so intelligent and deep. I feel head over heels for her words that I was crying at multiple points and I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!I just can't get enough of these books. The power of the rebellion and the depths these characters go to fight for what is right is so inspiring to me it gives me goosebumps EVERY TIME. I can't say enough about how much I love and admire these books. They inspire me to be better.
SO, I did write down my thoughts while reading, true to my somewhat new blog review style, but I also wanted to include my favorite quotes from the book. All my re-reads will be in this style. Picture of thoughts--favorite quotes. Here we go!
Favorite Quotes
“I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now and live in it forever.”
“You know, you could live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him.”
“So it's you and a syringe against the Capitol? See, this is why no one lets you make the plans.”
“I always channel my emotions into my work. That way, I don't hurt anyone but myself.”
“We had to save you because you're the mockingjay, Katniss," says Plutarch. "While you live, the revolution lives.”
“At some point, you have to stop running and turn around and face whoever wants you dead. The hard thing is finding the courage to do it.”
“I don't want you forgetting how different our circumstaces are. If you die, and I live, there's no life for me at all back in District Twelve. You're my whole life." Peeta says. "I would never be happy again. It's different for you. I'm not saying it wouldn't be hard. But there are other people who'd make your life worth living."
"No one really needs me," he says, and there's no selfpity in his voice. It's true his family doesn't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handfull of friends. But they will get on.... I realise only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me.
"I do," I say. "I need you.”
"I just want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you," Peeta replies.”
“I guess this is a bad time to mention I hung a dummy and painted Seneca Crane's name on it...”
“Remember, girl on fire,” he says, “I'm still betting on you.”
“I don't care if you got knocked up. I can still rip your throat out”
"...we are not just beauitful, we are dark and powerful. No, more. We star-crossed lovers from District 12, who suffered so much and enjoyed so little the rewards of our victory, do not seek the fans' favor, grace them with our smiles, or catch their kisses. We are unforgiving.
And I love it. Getting to be myself at last."
Gah!!! Do you guys love these quotes as much as I do?! Have you seen the movie! Share your thoughts!
I get chills reading these quotes! Oh man, I love this whole series so much! And the movie *dies*! The moment where Katniss says she needs Peeta and JUST ALL THE FEELINGS! I so need to reread these books...
ReplyDeleteI got so many feels just from reading these quotes. In the movie when Katniss said the line about needing Peeta I died. I literally died. I cried so many times during the movie because it was just so freaking perfect. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Now I want to reread the books.
ReplyDeleteAhhh I loved reading these quotes! I adored hte first and second books and absolutely loathed the 3rd. =\ The movie was AMAZING and perfect and one of the best book to movie adaptations I've seen. About your notes are you read -- I totalyl agree! GALE!! Cinna! Mags! So many feels.
ReplyDelete"FUCK, Cinna is amazing." Hahahaha. Agreed :p
ReplyDeleteI've not seen the movie yet but I can't wait! The quote that's my favourite from the series and I think might actually be from Mockingjay was 'If we burn, you burn with us!' Sent shivers down my spine that scene!
ReplyDeleteOh the quotes. That book was so full of memorable ones and reading the ones you have make me just want to reread the books again. (One day ;) )

Watching Catching Fire was an incredible experience, as the movie was so FREAKING BRILLIANT. In fact, I loved it so much that I wanted to re-read the book (which happens to be my favorite in the series!) :D
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie without re-reading, and the movie was obviously still good but I already know I'm going to have to go see it again after re-reading. It's just not the same without that as the precursor!
