Top Ten Books I Would Recommend To My Children

ADDENDUM: I realized as I was clicking Enter to submit my TTT link that I did the wrong topic...oops. Whatever. Bear with me, I'll do this week's next week. Sorry for my complete lack of intelligence. I'm still on Europe time. 

So, when looking at this week's Top Ten Tuesday I was a little lost trying to think of WHO I want to recommend books for. A friend? Did that in a discussion post. Guys? Meh, didn't really catch my attention. Then I guess I must have been feeling emo because the idea of what books I would want my future children to read came to me and I got really excited trying to think of what books I would LOVE my children to read and which books I will unabashedly push for them to read or which books I want to read to them one day. SO, without further ado, these are the books I want my unborn children to read, fall in love with, and learn from...

Harry Potter

Uh...Must I even explain myself on this one? 

I'll sit here for an hour if I try to explain the amazing that is Harry Potter. 

The Chronicles of Narnia

I would love love LOVE to read these to my kids as bedtime stories. 

It's exactly what I plan to do :)

The Giver

I think this book is perfect for children to read to begin thinking outside the box. Exploring the world that is not all sunshine and rainbows and discussing very deep issues in a simple way.

Number the Stars

I think this book is amazing. I loved reading this book as a kid and I think it also opens up the topics of brutality in a very peripheral way. Not directly talking about the devastation of the Holocaust but it opens up the discussion for children to begin understanding selflessness and the ugliness of World War II.

The Book Thief

This book is the most beautiful and poignant thing I've ever read. I would LOVE for the kids to read this and understand the beauty that lies within words. *sigh* I just can't talk enough about this book. 

The Fault in Our Stars

Hazel and Augustus' story is tragically beautiful and I think all humans should read this to put things into perspective. I'll start crying if I try to explain more...

Thirteen Reasons Why

I love this book. It is dark and sad and I want my kids to know the consequences of their actions of how they treat other people. This book is perfect for kids to begin to understand how their actions can hurt others and the consequences of those actions. Harsh but true. 

The Babysitter's Club

Who didn't love these books growing up?! They are fun and light and teach responsibility of having a job :)

Why yes, I am going to push a book about a little girl who loves to read...take the hint kids.

The Hunger Games

Obviously this will be introduced when they are older but the ideas of sacrifice, love, standing up for what you believe in oozes from these pages. I want my kids to learn from Katniss...I should sign them up for archery lessons...
