Top Ten Beginnings and Endings of a Book

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week we talk about all the *gasp* ending and all the beginnings that suck you in immediatley. Here we go!

The Beginnings

Out of the Easy by Ruta Septys--This book has the best opening line I've ever read in my life. I will not spoil it. Go check it out ;)

The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas--The very first intro page has just the best voice. You can immediately hear the narration and you immediately know to expect magic--brilliant.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo--The introduction with the flashbacks of Alina and Mal as kids, I just loved. Sets up the story. Gives us a hint into their emotions. Loved it.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak--The story is narrated by Death. Seriously. From there, the writing is so unique, the voice so distinct, you are immediately enveloped in this story and can't seem to put the book down. It is one of those books that grabs your attention and demands to be read. Brilliance at work, honestly.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman--Uh, yeah...if you've read this book you know what happens in the first dozen pages...if that doesn't grab your attention, I don't know what will.

The Endings
Holy hell, do I love a good ending. Because of these jaw-dropping, gasping, can't-believe-it, what-the-hell, did-that-just-happen endings...I will list only the books by their titles...if you've read them...you know exactly what I'm talking about...

Delirum by Lauren Oliver

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling

Crown of Embers by Rae Carson

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

Can't wait to see what got your jaw dropping!!

  2. Shadow Kiss did have a fantastic ending. That whole series is awesome - I included VA on my list of great beginnings. Especially now with that Dimitri POV from Richelle Mead. :)

  6. The Book Thief is everywhere today! I'm seriously thinking that I should put any book I was going to read on hold and get my hands on a copy of The Book Thief.

Gah, and those endings!!! Yes, I know what you're talking about for a lot of them.

  7. Oh my, YES to so many of these picks haha. The Book Thief had a great opening, and I loved the first few chapters of Shadow and Bone. The ending to Catching Fire was awesome, but I was thanking my lucky stars that I had Mockingjay read to read so I didn't have to wait before starting it, haha!

  8. Crown of Midnight does have a great ending. The only problem with reading it is that the wait for the next book is so long!

Here's my list. I've gone mostly for opening lines.
