Goodreads Description

Fiercely loyal to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Phury has sacrificed himself for the good of the race, becoming the male responsible for keeping the Brotherhood's bloodlines alive. As Primale of the Chosen, he is obligated to father the sons and daughters who will ensure that the traditions of the race survive, and that there are warriors to fight those who want all vampires extinguished.

As his first mate, the Chosen Cormia wants to win not only his body, but his heart for herself. She is drawn to the noble responsibility behind the emotionally scarred male. But Phury has never allowed himself to know pleasure or joy. As the war with the Lessening Society grows grim, tragedy looms over the Brotherhood's mansion, and Phury must decide between duty and love....

My Thoughts

I have been WAITING for Phury's book since I read about Zsadist. There was just something so incredibly endearing and vulnerable about him that I HAD to get to know him more. That long gorgeous hair, the more steadfast and quiet demeanor had my heart racing a bit each time he was mentioned in previous books. Lover Enshrined gave me what I wanted. The vulnerable and noble Phury but also the passionate and fierce warrior.

I loved seeing Phury develop through this book because at times, his self-pity did grate on my nerves. Man up, bro. Knock it off with the pity party and start throwing down for what you want. And Cormia was totally the female equivalent to him. Bound by duty, hating it, and wanting an out that she never could imagine actually happening. The angst between these two characters and their duty broke my heart. I saw no happy ending in sight for these two for the longest time. The intensity and emotions of their story had me dyyyyying!! It was too much!...but I loved it...obvi... They were both so focused on doing the right thing that they never acted for themselves. SO ANNOYING! But again, where would our book be without conflict? Fine. While it took most of the damn book to get these two acting selfishly--in a good way--they did eventually start making decisions that were best for them. It was like a huge collective sigh...FINALLY. About f'ing time, yo.

I ALSO loved how much more we saw of the Brotherhood as a whole. We got SO much John Matthew and I loved every second of it. He is probably one of my favorites and I refuse to look at the future book descriptions but I THINK he does have one of his own and I CAN'T FREAKIN' WAIT! His vulnerability and shyness just makes my heart bleed. And Qhuinn?! There is just something about his sluttiness and sarcasm that makes me love him. Blay--ador. And Rhevenge...rawr. Let me rub that mowhawk puh-lease!

And OF COURSE with Phury comes a little more look at Zsadist and Bella...EEP!!! Zsadist is just as caring, adorable, and harsh as ever and the interactions we get between him and Bella continue to make my heart ache in the best way. I cannot WAIT to read their novella...a;dfslkjeoiwrj.

I love how the story continues to twist and turn and a LOT happened in this book especially in the last few parts...for serious. I love how with JR Ward's writing and plot outline you NEVER really know how the story will unfold. I feel like the farther I get in these books, the worse my reviews are because I can't give away spoilers AND it is TOO hard to put into words how much and why I LOOOOOOVE these books! There is just so much love and loyalty to their family and Brothers it makes my heart almost hurt with how much adoration they all have for one another. *sigh* I love these men. I adore their females. And I continue to absolutely obsess over these books. *sigh*

Should You Read This? Uh...duh.

  1. HAHA. Great review! I think out of all the books this is one of my least fav. . . Phury just didn't stand out as much as his brother. Don't get me wrong I still loved it, just the top of the series for me. Can't wait to read the rest of your reviews! ~Kristina

  2. You know, I think I remember this one the least? I'm trying to place what happened in this book and I'm just not remembering. So I'm glad I'm slowly making my way back thru them before THE KING mwahahahahaha because THAT will be a stellar book for sure.
