My Thoughts

Wow. My Julie Kagawa weekend read-athon was so up and down. The Immortal Rules--okay. The Eternity Cure--freakin' awesome! The Lost Prince--really, really great and kind of just okay at the same time. Where do I begin? At the beginning? Ok :) (Sorry, can't hold back from a Lewis Carroll/Alice in Wonderland quote...ever...)

So the good. First of all, I LOOOOOVED being back in the world of the Fey. Like loved. It felt like coming home a bit. I binge read the entire Iron Fey series a few months ago and absolutely fell in love. The characters, the places, the language, it was all fantastic and it felt good to be back :) The bad--I wouldn't even say bad, the okay--the plot was so up and down for me that at some points I couldn't turn the page fast enough and didn't want to put it down...at other points I found myself a little bored. I don't know, maybe it was me being in a mood but the story went very back and forth for me.

One new addition that I ADORED?? Kierran. Oh my word, love love love him! He is a fantastic character and I am so ecstatic to see him take a role in the world of the Fey books. I cannot wait to see more of him in the upcoming series. Ethan...he was good. Not a super easy character to fall in love with. He has a right to act how he does but he still is beyond broody for most of the book. I think he may have had his period but I'm not sure. I wanted to like him more so I'm hoping he appeals to me more in the next book. Kenzie-Love. Fearless, brave, stubborn to the point of annoying. In short, she was awesome. I loved getting to know her and I think her character is another perfect addition to this series. Did I mention Grimalkin is back?...No?...Well, he is and OF COURSE he is just as snarky and fabulous in this book.

The plot overall was good. Nothing mind-blowing to me but an interesting scenario for our characters to deal with. The ending definitely sets up a much more gray area with things. I really liked this. Sets things up for the next book and adds even more mystery to what is going on. The similarities between Kierran and Ethan to Puck and Ash are amazing. As is Kierran's *ahem* relationship. I loved the parallels between the story lines. *tear*

I really wish I had more to say about this book. I loved being back in the Nevernever. I loved seeing old characters and I am really excited to see where the rest of our story takes us. But overall, for the first book in the new series it good...but not great. Sad for me. And actually, while this story didn't WOW me, it did make me want to go back and re-read the entire Iron Fey series...maybe I'll do that...soon...:)

Should You Read This? Yes. If you loved the Iron Fey and Julie Kagawa, you will like this. It probably will not replace the Iron Fey in your heart, because seriously what can? But this is a good addition to the story. I would still recommend and pick it up :) And yes, I'm still drooling over Ash in case you were wondering.
