Top Ten Books I HAD To Buy...and Are STILL Sitting On My Shelf

So I am so totally GUILTY of this week's Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!! I get on this kick of NEEDING to buy a certain book but then I get nervous about reading it because then ya know...it's over and I've been reeeeally bad about this with a lot of fantastic books that I know I'll love. So here are the most recent ones I'm guilty of...

1. Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Septys--Asked for this for Christmas...and still it sits. And I KNOW I'll love it...I just haven't gotten to it yet...will remedy this soon :)

2. Out of the Easy by Ruta Septys--Same thing. Found it at Half Price Book, SO EXCITED, haven't read it yet...fail

3. The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa--I will say without shame I do not want to go back into the Faery world...knowing this is only the first book. I BINGE read The Iron Fey so only having this one book without the follow-ups makes me fear for my peace of mind

4. Incarnate by Jodi Meadows--This books sounds so good! AND I bought Asunder so I have TWO books from the same series I haven't read it.

5. Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin--I LOVE re-tellings of classic stories but I am holding off on this one until at least the sequel comes out. I have some willpower with this...but not often.

6. Bared to You by Silvia Day--Again, like with MofRD, I want the entire series out so I can read and not have to wait...I am very impatient like that and I don't have to wait too much longer. Last book available in print in May :)

7. The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory--OBSESSED with all of her other Tudor and Plantagenet books but the focus of this book, Margaret Beaufort, isn't all that interesting to me. I know I'll get to it eventually, just haven't yet.

8. Captive Queen: A Novel of Eleanor of Aquitaine by Alison Weir--Again, history geek in me was so excited when I bought this, on super sale at Barnes and Noble mind you, but I just haven't found the commitment to sit and read it.

9. Wither by Lauren DeStefano--Heard great things and now that all 3 books are out, I might be able to find a better reason so start it.

10. Above by Leah Bobet--Bought this when I was in Toronto because it takes place there and 4 months later it still sits on my shelf...I have to read this one soon or I'll forget what Toronto looked like haha

Can't wait to see what lovelies you all have left on your shelves! Peace and love! <3

  1. I've heard so much about Between Shades of Grey, The Lost Prince and The Masque of Red Death but never gotten to them, now I'll need to bump them up my TBR pile :D Incarnate has an awesome idea but I personally didn't think it was well-executed, hope to hear your thoughts!

  2. Oh the Masque of the Red Death is on my list too! I've heard that it's like the first half of a book so I'm fine with waiting until closer to the sequel too.

  3. oh, Wither is a book I own but haven't read yet either!! I've heard mixed things about the series so I don't know if I will actually start it any time soon. I liked Incarnate but haven't read Asunder yet! I don't know, probably going to wait for the last book there.

  4. Admittedly, I didn't like WITHER or THE LOST PRINCE as much as I'd thought I would D: I've heard great things about MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH & OUT OF THE EASY though!

    Great choices!

  5. Though I don't have any of the books on your list on my shelf, I still really want to read them, too! Though of course, they might as well end up sitting on my shelf for a good long while, as well...

I'm with you on waiting until all the books in a series are out until I start them so I don't think there's anything wrong for you not to have read those ones yet. I mean, the wait between books would be too torturous otherwise! I am such an enabler, haha.

Probably out of all of these, I would like to read Between Shades of Gray the most, on account of all the AMAZING things I've heard about it. I'm sure I would love it, too!

  6. I highly recommend Ruta Sepetys - I've read both her novels, and though I preferred Out Of The Easy, both of them were awesome historical novels.

The Masque Of The Red Death is one of those books with a dark and creepy atmosphere that's creepy but good. The characters aren't always easy to connect to, but it's still worth it.

The Crossfire series is my guilty pleasure, lol. Not the type of thing I usually read, but . . . . yeah.

I didn't like The Lost Prince as much as the other Iron Fey books, mostly because of Ethan, but the old characters pop up a few times, so it's all good. XD

  8. I totally understand about wanting to read a series when it all comes out. I liked Bared to You better than Reflected and am hoping Entwined is better and rounds out the series nicely. The Masque of the Red death is ne I really want to read, but haven't yet.

  9. I've read The Lost Prince, but not The Iron Fey series! I have Wither on my shelf to read too. I haven't read any of the other books you've listed, though I have borrowed The Masque of The Red Death from the library - and haven't read it yet. :/

  10. OMG your book list is fantastic! Hope you do get the chance to read them as your books are amazing!

Your so lucky to have found Out of the Easy in a half price book shop :( I've been waiting for its price to go down in Amazon.

  11. Get on Wither. haha It's not my favorite series... by no means amazeballs... but it's crazy unique and Linden kinda has the Warner vibe---- really creepy and just wrong, but for some reason you kinda like him. LIKE... I said LIKE. No lust involved, but considering Gabriel will be the only other option you are kind of forced to jump on the Linden train. Seriously, Gabriel, total wiener.

  12. Wither seems to be cropping up quite a lot! It's on mine as well!
    Awesome list.
    Here's my TTT post :)

  13. The Red Queen has been sitting on my shelf unread for quite some time too. I really enjoyed Captive Queen though.

  14. I also have Wither waiting to be read! I've heard mixed things and I'm not sure if I'll like it, but it was a book I HAD TO BUY. Because apparently, that makes sense. And you've got to read Incarnate to tell me if it's worth it haha! It sounds really good though, I might have to pick it up :)

  15. Someone actually gave me Between Shades of Grey and I still haven't read it either. Incarnate is really good, but I've yet to get my hands on Asunder. And I've only read the first Iron Fey book. I liked it, so I don't know why I can't bring myself to read the rest. I also know how you feel about waiting for all the books in a series. I said I was going to do that with Wither, because I got it at BAM for, like, $3.

  16. Incarnate by Jodi Meadows was pretty unique and books two just came out! I enjoyed Julie Kagawa's The Iron King also. Happy Reading. :)

  17. Glad to see another Alison Weir fan! I haven't bought that one yet, but I will when the pile gets a bit smaller.

  18. Masque is an amazingly haunting book, from a promising ddebut author. Wither is also a masterpiece of fiction. I hope you read them both soon. Thanks!

  21. Wither! And Masque of the Red Death! And INCARNATE! Do we need to host an intervention? ;) I LOVED those books and since we're book soulmates, you will to, so get to it girl!
Maybe we can do a readalong of the Red Queen, since I haven't read it yet either :)

  22. Okay okay okay, I absolutely ADORED Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin and if that second book doesn't come out soon I might fall over. LOVE that one. LOVE it. Read it already!!! Do it - there's a place in there called the debauchery club that is like "setting as character" which I ALWAYS love, when a setting is so good it can almost be it's own character, ya know?

Also YES to Incarnate - I just re-read that one and I'm reading Asunder now! What a great, great book with great fantasy and some neat and interesting lore (hello, sylphs!). Seriously HURRY NOW. Go!

Also, you may or may not know that The Chemical Garden series is in my top series books EVER so I fully support you hurrying on up with these books. They're not for everyone because the world is dark but the writing is so great and beautiful, and I think you might like them. BONUS: They are ridiculously discussable, like discuss-as-you-go.

And The Lost Prince. SIGH. I have this one too but am SO APPREHENSIVE about going back into this world in a slightly different series. Will I love it as much? Because the Iron Fey are also among the top books in my world only in like ever. I'm with you on that one. But I don't know that I want to wait until the series is finished. In fact, I was thinking about this book earlier today while I was driving. No kidding. But that is a sidenote that has nothing to do with anything.

    Great list, gal!

  23. I need to read some of those books too such as Incarnate.

  24. Wither and the whole Chemical Garden series was SO good. It takes a few chapters to get into the first one, but after that you'll want to read them one right after another. But I still haven't read Masque of the Red Death either, that's on my list as well.

    Mind checking out my TTT?

Hope to chat with you soon!

  25. Captive Queen sounds good, so I'll definitely be looking for it to add to my ridiculously long TBR list. I haven't bought The Red Queen yet, but The White Queen is on my shelf at home waiting to be read.
