Goodreads Description

John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown to himself and to those around him. After he was taken in by the Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was- or his true identity. Indeed, the fallen Brother Darius has returned, but with a different face and a very different destiny. As a vicious personal vendetta takes John into the heart of the war, he will need to call up on both who he is now and who he once was in order to face off against evil incarnate.

Xhex, a symphath assassin, has long steeled herself against the attraction between her and John Matthew. Having already lost one lover to madness, she will not allow the male of worth to fall prey to the darkness of her twisted life. When fate intervenes, however, the two discover that love, like destiny, is inevitable between soul mates.

My Thoughts

Ok. I love the Brothers, we all know this. I’ll stop beating a dead horse by moving on…EXCEPT that I need to point out that anybody who reads these knows they have their own personal favorites. Z is hands down the mother load of amazing so he will always be #1 but Wrath always holds a sexy place in my heart, Qhuinn beyonds intrigues me but JOHN MATTHEW. I have been patiently (not so patiently) waiting to get to his book. Ermagosh! He is just so…I don’t even know. Ever since he was introduced in Lover Eternal I couldn’t stop wanting to read about this broken soul--again, you all know how much I love my tortured souls. I fell in love with his shyness, his desire to be so much more than what life has given him, his strength; he just felt so real as a character. Probably one of the most fleshed out in the entire series. So yeah, I was excited BEFORE starting this book. Let’s get to the actual book.

John Matthew has grown from the scared pretrans into a large and in charge male. He has finally decided what he wants out of life and what lengths he will go to get it…or her. John has been in love with Xhex since he saw her--*sigh*. I won’t get into much more synopsis because it’s boring (read it if you want to know J ) but seeing him search for Xhex and do whatever it takes to get her back had my heart beating faster…and breaking. Their journey to each other is built a broken road—Thanks Rascall Flatts—and things are never easy for these two. We really get a chance to see how a bonded male reacts without his female and shit son, things are not pretty. Seeing John so broken and hurt just broke my heart. He is just so sweet and reading about his pain just made me want to cry. He continued to astound me the entire book with how he handled things and how he was there for Xhex every step of the way.

And Xhex?! Love love love. While in most cases, she is not my kind of chick. A little too rough sometimes but at the same time, I think that’s what made me adore her as well. She isn’t your typical girl, not by a long shot. I love that she can solely and totally take care of herself and after everything she has been through, the fact that she is still standing and breathing is a testament to her strength. Was her constant need to be independent annoying sometimes? Yeah. But that’s who she is. And when you learn more of her background you totally see why. Seeing her with John and reading her thoughts had my heart bleeding. Them finding each other is one of the more poetic and beautiful love stories of the series…after Z and Bella of course. They really do belong together and watching her walls come down made her an even more beautiful character to me.

I also loved how much other plot was going on. Lash continues to make me want to jump in the book and stab him myself and his depravity knows no bounds in this installment. He truly is an incarnate of evil. Wrath and Payne make my day with their sparring and I love seeing Wrath have an outlet of normalcy after what happened to him in the last book. I also really enjoy Payne—sorry, can’t not love a badass chick who can fight. The entirety of Xhex’s story and how it twists and turns and all details are revealed at the end was brilliant. I really loved how the past and present weaved into one. Same goes for John Matthew. That’s all I’m saying. J

I can’t get enough of these book so I will continue to binge read until there are no more…then I’ll cry and start a countdown for the next one.

Should You Read This? Obvi.
