My Thoughts
The Belle

Per usual, my words have escaped me. My heart is so full after reading this that it's really hard to put into words my depth of love for this series so this is--probably--gonna be short and sweet.

I Am Not Afraid // The Throne of Glass Book Tag

I am all about the book tags recently and THIS ONE is no exception because it is AMAZING!! My brilliant friends Hannah from So Obsessed With and Alexa from Alexa Loves Books created this fan-fucking-tastic book tag based on Throne of Glass. You all KNOW how much I love Throne of Glass so this one was right up my alley and I was immediately obsessed with picking out the books I wanted to choose for each category! Here we go!

Lysandra // A Book With A Cover Change You Loved
I absolutely LOVED reading The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead but those covers?? Atrocious. After the movie came out and they republished them with the wicked cool VA metallic looking emblem. I was pissed I already had all my copies. Endgame is to switch them out probably when I re-read them.

Abraxos // A Book That Looks Better On The Inside Than It Does On The Outside
The Reed Brothers series by Tammy Faulkner is in much need of a makeover. Same with the titles. I love me alliteration but combine those covers with the lame title and it breaks my heart how many people will pass over them based on first impression looks because I LOVE these books. They are a new adult series that just clicks with my heart. I adore the Reed brothers and their wives and I thoroughly enjoyed reading their stories, they have a

Erilea // A Series With Great World Building
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor has DA BEST world building EVER! It is so freaking vivid and harshly beautiful with all the chimera that I cannot help but fall head over heels with the visceral imagery Laini gives us.

Rifthold // A Book That Combines Genres
The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas combines high fantasy and historical fiction and HELLO two of my favorite genres wrapped into one amazing package? Hell. To. The. Yes. This is one of my favorite series and it does both historical fiction AND fantasy immense justice.

Damaris // A Book Based On/Inspired By A Myth/Legend
Scarlet by AC Gaughen. This is the first Robin Hood inspired story I've read and I definitely wanted more after reading. Scarlet and Robin are an amazing couple and how Gaughen twists the story is just incredible. The first two books of this series are on another level of amazing.

Kaltain Rompier // A Book With An Unexpected Twist
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein. I NEVER saw the ending coming...at all...ever...in a million, billion years. It was heart-breaking and epic and extraordinary and it broke me in a way I didn't think was possible. It was brilliant and while the writing style won't be for everybody, it worked for me.

Assassin's Keep // A Book With An Unreliable Narrator
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. Juliette is a very damaged and broken girl when we meet her in Shatter Me. Throughout the story we get a more and more accurate and objective view of what is really going on and who people really are. A lot of people have a problem with this however I loved seeing her evolve and grow and change her opinions on things *cough* and people.

Asterin Blackbeak // A Book That's God SQUAD GOALS
The ONLY logical choice for this question is the Black Dagger Brotherhood. They are my family. Moreso than any other book series, these males and females are my people. They love and support and defend one another above everything else. The love they share is beautiful and enviable and amazing. I daydream about living in Caldwell and maybe one day I'll fall through the veils between worlds and end up there. Hey? A girl can dream, can't she?

Terrasen // A Book That Feels Like Home
Harry Potter by JK Rowling. I grew up with Harry Potter and it is such a staple in my life that nothing can compare to it. When people ask me my favorite book I rarely even say Harry Potter because it is just on another level for me besides being the obvious answer.
Aelin Ashryver Galathynius // A Book With The Power To Destroy You
Love in English by Karina Halle. There is a lot that I can relate to with Vera and there is one single line in that book that spoke to my soul more than anything else ever has. When I read it, I get back into that mind space and it hurts so good. Never have I read a character who spoke a truth that is so close to my own heart it felt like that book and that moment was written just for me. It's powerful and poignant and scary. It destroys me every time I read it.

Manon Blackbeak // A Book That Intimidate You
Covet by JR Ward. It is obviously no secret I love the BDB and the recently released Bourbon Kings by Ward BUT I had yet to read her Fallen Angels series. I love the BDB so much and JR SO MUCH that it would destroy me if I didn't really enjoy her other series. Surprise! I LOVE IT!! I have two more books to read and I'm so sad to see it end!! I love these characters and their stories and I don't want it to stop!

Rowan Whitethorn // A Book That Makes You Swoon
Lover Awakened by JR Ward. No other book compares to the romance of Z and Bella. Zsadist is my BAE. He is my one true love and nobody else comes close. Many valiant males have tried and while I love a lot, Z is always who my bookish heart goes home to.
Chaol Westfall // A Book That Challenged You To See Things Differently
The Angel by Tiffany Reisz. This book is so beautiful with it's message of acceptance and love and it just pulls my heart strings every time. The entire series is an accurate portrayal of the BDSM lifestyle as well as the acceptance of many forms of sexuality. I considered myself open-minded before reading this series but after, I am definitely a thousand times more open-minded. I am in debt to these books for allowing me to grow into the person I am today.

Fleetfoot // A Book That You Received As A Gift
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. Hannah gave me this for my birthday a few years ago and it is one of the most amazing stories. It is romantic and full of love and acceptance and growth and strength and survival. It is my first Christian Fiction book and won't be my last. I loved this book and if it wasn't for Hannah I never would have read it and loved it!
Eye of Elena // A Book You Found Right When You Needed It
There's a three-way tie for this one because they all changed my life in the best way. The first two are Arcadia Awakens by Kai Meyer and Just One Day by Gayle Forman. These books inspired me to take my first trip to Sicily where my family came from. I still have family there and Aracadia Awakens takes place in Sicily and I read Just One Day shortly after and that book inspired me to take chances. So after reading those two books I thought to myself, why CAN'T I plan a trip to Sicily and see the country my grandmother came from? That moment made me take the leap to just DO IT...So I did.

The final book is Golden by Jessi Kirby and this book inspired me to start travel nursing. I had been planning on doing it a year after graduation but then I ended up really liking the place I worked and had new friends and just got comfortable. That book features one of my favorite quotes of life and that is 'what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?' I realized I was sitting around, unhappy and scared to do anything about it. This book made me think, what the fuck am I going to do with this one life? I'm going to fucking live it and live it well. This book brought me to where I am today and I cannot thank it enough.

Boom!

I Want To Be Aelin When I Grow Up {Queen of Shadows Blog Tour}

Welcome to my stop on the QUEEN OF SHADOWS blog tour! I am a proud member of the Maas Thirteen--still waiting for my wyvern, though--and I am so excited to share my post today! For my stop, I'm telling you all the reasons I want to be Aelin Ashryver Galathynius when I grow up. Although, if you ask Alexa, I already am her. Yes, that is the best compliment I have ever received in my life in case you're wondering. Regardless, these are the reasons I love her and why I want to be Aelin Ashryver Galathynius when I grow up.

She Grows Up
There are many things I love about Aelin but the thing I have come to love the most about her is the journey that she takes over the last 5 books. I love her growth. Her struggle with self-acceptance. I think this is something any reader can relate to because over the course of our lives we all change and mature--okay, SOME of us change and mature but I digress--and grow up to be who we are. I think all of us struggle with self-acceptance at one point or another and her journey is so beautiful to me.

She Takes Zero Shit
If you've read these books you know that she fights...a lot. As an assassin and basically all-around BAMF, she doesn't take shit. She stands up for herself, she sticks up for those who can't stick up for themselves, and she'll always throw herself into a fight if she sees justice needs to be served. I LOVE this about her and this quality of sticking up for the underdog and standing up for what's right.

She's Snarky
Aelin is a girl after my own heart as being Queen of Comebacks. Her one-liners are to die for and she always has a quick whip to say. I SO COMPLETELY appreciate this in a character because I believe wit to be one of the most hard-found things in a person. The banter that occurs because of her smart mouth are some of my favorite parts of the books. Few things make me happier than a character well-versed in the language of sarcasm and sit.

She Believes in Revenge
As a Sicilian and self-proclaimed temper temptress, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that she lets her anger get the best of her at times. I actually love when she lashes out and acts before she thinks. It's something I can identify with and I like to see aspects of my own personality, even the bad ones, reflected in characters I love. It makes me feel less like a freak. Having a temper is not something I'm proud of but I've had it all my life and it is what it is so I very selfishly love when she gets angry. It turns me on. But not all of her actions are rash and in the moment. Some moments she waits for and has waited for for years. When she is able to get revenge on people who have wronged her is the moment I knew I wanted to be her when I grow up, hehe.

She Fights Fiercely and Loves Deeply
Another quality of Aelin that I love that I do see in myself that not many people understand is her juxtapositional ability to fight fiercely and have anger but also love deeply. She is not just one singular entity of one or the other. She fights so tough and she is a badass fire-breathing bitch queen not to mess with but when she loves...she loves just as fiercely. If you are one of her people she will protect you and love you until her last breath. I feel like this kind of both ends of the extreme is difficult to understand but I understand it perfectly. It's not easy to grasp how somebody that can be seen as abrasive and tough and badass as somebody who can also be soft and vulnerable but Aelin represents this and girl, I GET YOU!

She Has Her Squad
Aelin is not alone, though. She is independent, fierce, loyal, emotional, and complex. Just a few extra adjectives as to why I love her but people are also influenced by the company they keep and Aelin's inner circle is one for the record books. ANOTHER similarity we have is she surrounds herself with people that are similar yet different than herself. Her friends complement her and keep her grounded and also build her up. I have never had good relationships with people growing up but I can proudly say now that after 27 years I have found my squad, my inner circle, my own carranams. Aelin has been betrayed in the past as well and finally has friends that she can trust and call her own. I love all the different dynamics she has with her different friends. #BadBlood

My Thoughts
The Belle

Listen. I'm not going to break down the plot or reveal spoilers for what happens. That's just not cool. There is no way that I can possibly describe my love for this series in any eloquent fashion but I will tell you a few things.

1. The Story Continues To Blow Me Away
The plot of this book progresses in so many ways, most of which I never saw coming but in the best way. I love how this story has evolved and unfolded. The story that Sarah J Maas writes is one of plotted out perfection. Everything clicks in to place but that isn't to say surprises don't happen because THEY DO. What impresses me most is that there isn't anything about this story I 'need' to happen. I'm just EXCITED to see what happens next. Sarah's writing is that of such elegance and beauty and brilliance that I completely trust in her ability to tell the story that needs to be told and I know that I will love it.

2. The Characters Have Me By The Balls
And I mean this in a good way. I mean this in the way that I love every character in this book. No...ever.single.character I has fondness and love and admiration for. They are all so uniquely different and that is what I love about them. They all have strengths and weaknesses and they all work together and click in a way that make them the most sought after team. Seriously, you guys. #SquadGoals There are so very few series that I genuinely love each and every character and am happy to see how their lives play out and where they go next. The romantic aspect of the story as a whole is a hot topic and heated debate and makes for really exciting reading but know that I have no ship. I am Team Aelin through and through and will love to watch her grow and love and evolve as a woman no matter where or who her heart lies with. Lays? Still don't remember which one is which. Regardless, I believe that true fans of this series who love these characters will find this book incredible.

3. The Feels Are Ever-Present
My emotions are so wound up and entangled in these characters that they are quickly becoming one of those book series that I consider family. Their happiness and well-being is always something I worry about when reading and this book is no exception. The range of emotion I felt while reading ranged from every point on the spectrum. It was cathartic and amazing and everything I was hoping for in the next book.

4. The Writing Never Ceases To Impress Me
I can't even verbalize how much I love Sarah's writing. It is brilliant and beautiful. Subtle and sassy. Powerful and poignant and about a million other things. I just love how much impact her words have on my soul. They are so inspirational that I actually find myself clutching my chest with how much I feel when I'm reading. I want to join a rebel group and have a cause to fight for after reading. I want to be in Erilea and fight with Aelin and be a part of the solution. These books inspire me to just be better and more fierce which, please, I'm already plenty fierce so this is saying something :)

Seriously, though. There are very few things that I can say about this series that I haven't said before. I'll link my recent Book Pushin' posts below because honestly, all I can say is read these books. If you haven't read these books yet you need to get your life right.

This series is so many things that I can't even begin to describe but it has a huge piece of my heart...to whatever end.

Book Pushin' With Sarah J Maas

The final day of Book Pushin' Throne of Glass is upon us. The final post, the big shabam, the conclusion of love has Sarah herself here to answer a few fun questions!

First of all, I have to say THANK YOU times infinity for gracing us with your presence here at Belle of the Literati today! I was SO excited to ask you these questions and I'm even more excited for your answers. Without further ado, let's do this!

Sarah: The only guaranteed survivor of this series.

Yeeeees! Those are all so great! Now let's apply all those amazing characteristics to real life...

Which character would you....

Kelly: Want to be stuck on a deserted island with? (Interpret that as you will hehe)?
Sarah: Rowan, so he could shift into a hawk and fly away to find help. :P

Kelly: Go out for a night on the town/drinking with?
Sarah: Aedion. (Though I doubt I’d survive his level of partying.)
Kelly: Yasssss!! Will you be my wing woman, Sarah? For Aedion, of course. You'll already be out with out him sooooo hook a sister up :)

Kelly: I can def see this happening.

Kelly: Have dogsit Annie for you?
Sarah: Dorian!

Kelly: Confide your secrets in?
Sarah: Chaol.

Kelly: Pick up guys with? (if you were single, of course)
Sarah: Aedion. Or Asterin Blackbeak.
Kelly: LOVE this!!

Kelly: Go to for advice?
Sarah: Aelin!

Kelly: Cry to?
Sarah: Dorian!
Kelly: Aw!!

Kelly: Text the most inappropriate yet hilarious things to?
Sarah: Aelin! Or Aedion.

Kelly: Finally! If you could describe your series in a one sentence, what would it be?

Sarah: So long/epic/sweeping/swoony/sad/intense/badass/magical/dark/bloody that I literally sat at my desk for 10 minutes, trying & failing to find a way to sum it all up in one sentence.” (…yes that’s actually my sentence, lol.)

Kelly: That looks perfect to me! Thank you SO MUCH, Sarah! I loved your answers and think they are just perfect...kinda like your books!

I hope you guys have enjoyed my week long love affair with Throne of Glass series! Don't forget to check out my other posts throughout the week, especially if you enjoy hot guys. Hubba hubba.

I Will Not Be Afraid // Words Have The Power To Change Us

A major element of what makes these books so amazing is the writing. Sarah J Maas' writing is eloquent and epic and brings the feels. Her words are visceral and they feel real and I just feel so, so inspired when I read one of these books. They are also funny and clever and the banter....gurrrrl the banter is always on another level. These are my favorite quotes from the books and if this doesn't sell you then I really cannot help you.
Assassin's Blade
‘She was fire, she was darkness, she was dust and blood and shadow.’

'You're a damned idiot...You're a moron and an ass and a damned idiot...Because I'd pick you."

'I lied! And you know I lied, you stupid bastard!'

'My price was his oath that he'd never lay a hand on you again.'

‘There was no way in hell she was going to move to the southern continent without all of her books.’

‘I will not be afraid.’

Throne of Glass
‘You could rattle the stars.’

‘Libraries are full of ideas - perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.’

‘Celaena…get up.’

'Libraries were full of ideas–perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.'

'You could rattle the stars,' she whispered. 'You could do anything, if only you dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That’s what scares you most'

'My name is Celaena Sardothien. But it makes no difference if my name's Celaena or Lillian or Bitch, because I'd still beat you, no matter what you call me.'

'With each day he felt the barriers melting. He let them melt. Because of her genuine laugh, because he caught her one afternoon sleeping with her face in the middle of a book, because he knew that she would win.'

'I'm not married,' he said softly, 'because I can't stomach the idea of marrying a woman inferior to me in mind and spirit. It would mean the death of my soul.'

'Names are not important. It's what lies inside of you that matters.'

Crown of Midnight
‘Dance with me, Celaena.’

‘The rest of the world quieted into nothing. In that moment, after ten long years, Celaena looked at Chaol and realized she was home.’

‘You remind me of what the world ought to be. What the world can be.’

'The rest of the world quieted into nothing. In that moment, after ten long years, Celaena looked at Chaol and realised she was home.'

'She smiled sadly. 'You'll figure it out. And when you do...' She shook her head, knowing she shouldn't say it, but doing it anyway. 'When you do, I want you to remember that it wouldn't have made any difference to me. It's never made any difference to me when it came to you. I’d still pick you. I’ll always pick you.'

'It was like coming home or being born or suddenly finding an entire half of herself that had been missing.'

'There had never been any line between them, only his own stupid fear and pride. Because from the moment he'd pulled her out of that mine in Endovier and she had set those eyes upon him, still fierce despite a year in hell, he'd been walking toward this, walking to her. So Chaol brushed away her tears, lifter her chin, and kissed her.'

Heir of Fire
'She would remake the world—remake it for them, those she had loved with this glorious, burning heart; a world so brilliant and prosperous that when she saw them again in the Afterworld, she would not be ashamed. She would build it for her people, who had survived this long, and who she would not abandon. She would make for them a kingdom such as there had never been, even if it took until her last breath… ‘Get up,’…Celaena reached across the earth between them and brushed her fingers against Aelin’s. And arose.'

‘She was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow for no one.’

‘She was Aelin Ashryver Galanthynius—and she would not be afraid.’

''Because I am lost,"' she whispered onto the earth. "And I do not know the way.'

'Gods, he was brilliant. Cunning and wicked and brilliant.'

'And somewhere far and deep inside her, an ember began to glow.'

'It was the Song of Eyllwe. Then the Song of Fenharrow. And Melisande. And Terrasen. Each nation that had people in those labor camps. And finally, not for pomp or triumph, but to mourn what they had become, they played the Song of Adarlan.'

'Get up.'

'Tell them it's time to fight back.'
