I Hate That I Love You So Much

If you've been here before you know how much I love hate-to-love relationships. The angry banter. The angry sex. The angry everything. I've got a bit of a temper myself *cough* so when I get to read about characters screaming at each other and then kissing the shit out of each other my heart grows three sizes. Review

I'm not sure there is a characters in literature that I've read that I love to hate as much Soren. Well, let me rephrase that, I LOVE him. He has always fascinated me. His professional versus personal life are so at odds with one another that you can't help but want to crack into the soul of this big, blonde giant. Many readers I have come to discover are terrified of him--as they should be, a healthy dose of fear is good--but also 'hate' him. I love him. I love the torture he reigns down on Nora and Kingsley and I can't get enough of it. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THES BOOKS STOP EVERYTHING AND DO IT NOW. *cough* Okay, I'm good.

Oh, Bran. You hardass, you. Bran is not an easy man to like let alone love. He is the quintessential brooder. He is closed-off, brave, the leader of a band of rag tag outlaws. He gives zero fucks. He is exactly the type of book boyfriend I love. The tough cookies. The hidden teddy bears. The ones who hate the world and do whatever they want whenever. He is such an asshole with his uncaring attitude that you can't help but wanna bash him over the head with something and then kiss it to make it better. Him and Liadan are amazing together and I love to hate Bran.

Rome is an asshole. I mean, complete and total douche bag meanie Captain No-Fun. Just out of the Army Rome is pissed at the world and he takes it out on those who love him. Cora does some interesting *ahem* beer therapy on him and it is so deserved. I loved watching his layers peel themselves away to the very tender-hearted man underneath. *sigh*

Y'all. I just cannot tell you how much I love Warner. Because if I had to name any character in the YA world that people hate most I'm pretty sure this man would take the cake...and then share it with me. Warner is...complicated. Manipulative, scheming, conniving, selfish and oh so much more than that. He gives you what he wants you think and we all fall for it perfectly. He doesn't let people see the real him, his true intentions, his true self, but when he does show it...*phew* watch your panties ladies because they are about to disintegrate. Warner's hate to love gauge is on another level and I love all facets of him. Even the mushy ones.

While Zsadist is my BAE now, when I first met him in Dark Lover, I legit texted Betty and said, "who the fuck is this psycho? People like him?!" Seriously. My first impression of Z is that of a complete psychopath. Aw, look at that! He and I have our very own hate to love relationship. I clearly don't have to tell you people to back away once again...back up...keeping going...MINE. K, thanks. Zsadist is and always will be my number one because he's just...him. He's that amazing combination of strength and vulnerability. Not realizing all the love he has in him to give and all the love he is capable of receiving. Like I said before, mine. Kindly keep walking, k thanks.

Oh, my gosh!! I cannot stop thinking about Matt!! Seriously. Book boyfriend HANGOVER!! I want to re-read the book just to get more of Matt and he is SO not my usual type of book boyfriend! While he is big and broad shouldered with longer blonde hair and tattoos and piercings, he is way too good of a person. LOL. Seriously, he is the opposite of hate to love. He is a kind and generous person who loves people. Oh, my god this will so be the type of guy I marry aka my exact opposite. I mean....okay, fine I'll take somebody like Matt any day of the week because bubba bubba. If you haven't read this series you need to!

Because I was at BEA at the end of last month and due to just pure laziness on my part this month, I have neglected Book Bangin'. You guys ever watch Girl Code? They do a segment where the featured girls will talk about who their celebrity BFF is in their head and then list all the reasons why they would be BFFs. This is Qhuinn. He is legitimately by best friend in my head. I adore him more than words can say and if I could incarnate one book character (besides Z) it's Qhuinn. I want him in my life. I love his strength and his vulnerability and he is loyal to his friends and fights for those he loves. Loyalty is my number one friend trait and Qhuinn has it in spades. He's my guy. Plus. he's Z's brother and he knows I have no romantic feelings towards him. Win-win.

Drew is the comic relief in every tense situation, the smirk at the end of the dirty joke, hell, he's the dirty joke in general. I love him in every possible non-romatic way. The way he is friend and family to Nasty Pants warms my heart.

Review

Like Drew, Daniel has a lot of hilarity. In addition to loyalty, I like somebody I know I can banter with. Who takes my shit and who gives it right back to and can keep up with my (if I do say so myself) quick wit. He would also be my date to all the slapstick humor movies I need to see.

Griffin is sex, humor, naughtiness, and all things delicious. He's the one guy on my friends list I would let to unspeakable things to me. If I wasn't committed and so in love with King, he would be my man of the Original Sinners...well, there's Soren, too....Ok just GIVE ME the Rolls Royce scene from The Virgin and I think we'll be good and I can just keep Griffin on the side as my man-mistress. Wow! The month and genre is EPIC to me! I have so much love, so many flails, and ALL THE FEELS for each and every boy mentioned in this video! There’s a line in a Rumer Godden book I love where she writes that a person was sweet, not as in sugary, but sweet like a good apple is sweet, real.  I had Jase in my head for years before he wandered onto my pages. No book writes itself, but the scene where he first shows up almost did. When he called up to Samantha “Need rescuing?” I was nearly as surprised as she was.  

Kindness and humor are essential for me to fall in love with a book boy. And that he really “gets” the girl—understands what makes her tick, where her strong points and her weak ones are, loves her for both and uses that knowledge for good. Etienne St. Clair in ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS, Katja Millay’s Josh Bennett in THE SEA OF TRANQUILITY, Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars, Katie McGarry’s Ryan Stone in DARE YOU TO, Tammara Webber’s  Reid Alexander, Peeta Mellark.

"Alex was inspired by one of the divers on a sponge tour boat in Tarpon Springs. Alex doesn't look like the real life diver, but as I watched him work, I was thinking that a good-looking guy could probably make bank in tips on the weekends. Although the majority of Greek guys are dark-haired, author Suzanne Young had been begging me for a blonde, so I gave Alex a dirty blond curls and BAM! Total book boyfriend material. 

Also, my absolute number one favorite book boyfriend is Ryan from Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar."

What Does Katja Millay Look For in a Book Boyfriend? And Who is She Swooning Over?...

"This is tough, because I tend to fall in love quite often when I read.  I made up a list so I could narrow it down and pick one and realized that they all had quite a bit in common with one another, so it seems I have a type when it comes to fictional love interests.  They were all somewhat quiet and reserved but not out of insecurity; rather they were very much in possession of their own thoughts and emotions. I loved that they all had something in their lives that they were intently focused on and passionate about and I think that kind of passion and focus is very attractive.  They were respectful which is always important to me.  And perhaps most significantly, they were beautifully flawed and real. 

So rather than subjecting you to my mile-long list of literary romantic prospects, I’ll give you my most recent which would be Gansey from The Raven Boys/The Dream Thieves who I’m quite certain would love me too if he were real and knew I existed. :)"

I LOVE the phrase beautifully flawed and real. Much of the reason why I love TSoT and Josh and Nastya so much. They are real and beautiful and flawed in their own way. *sigh*

How Did Colleen Hoover Create THE Dean mmm Holder? And Who Her Favorite Book Boyfriend Is...

"Well, as far as my inspiration for Holder goes, it's hard to say. I always have a hard time pinpointing exactly where my inspiration comes from when I write. But when I started writing Hopeless, I knew Holder had to be strong. As strong as Sky was, I knew she would need someone who could help hold her together when things came crashing down around her. Holder has been through so much that he doesn't have a choice but to be strong. I also knew that he would come off as kind of weird, and rude, and stalkerish at first, so I just really wanted to make sure that he was still likable! 

My favorite book boyfriend has to be Augustus Waters from The Fault in our Stars. Is that gross? He's only 17. I mean, I don't exactly swoon over him, but I just love him. He's so great."

I love Holder even more after reading this. I totally think weird rule the world, being normal isn't fun, who wants to be normal anyways, right? The Fault in Our Stars!! Augustus Waters is an amazing character! I didn't swoon either but I love him

Leigh Bardugo on her inspiration for Sturmhond, why she loves him, and who HER favorite book boyfriend is...

"Sturmhond was inspired by Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond, but mostly by someone too spoilery to mention for those who haven't read the book. 

  

Sturmhond practically writes himself. Whereas most of my characters struggle with their motives and themselves, Sturmhond is pure confidence. He knows exactly who he is and exactly what he wants. It's a pleasure to write that kind of clarity of intent.

I don't usually get crushes on characters, but I fell hard for Sean Kendrick in Maggie Stiefvater's The Scorpio Races."

Alex Lidell Interview

Kelly: Welcome to Belle of the Literati Alex! Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and say a few words about one of MY FAVORITE characters in fantasy! Eager readers want to know...who/what was your inspiration for writing Savoy?

Alex: Savoy started out as a character I developed for a role playing game.  He evolved A LOT from there, but that's where his roots began.

K: In a movie version of The Cadet of Tildor, who you be cast as your perfect Savoy?

A: Easy!  Brad Pitt, the way he looked in TROY.

K: OMG I love that answer and can TOTALLY see that! He is sexy in that movie!...rawr! 
If Savoy had a theme song, what would it be?

A: Oh no!  I am really not much of a music person, so I have no idea.  Something march like?  Eye of the Tiger?  I really don't know many songs.

K: Oh, good pick! I can totally see him fist pumping after victory. 
Finally and most importantly...will we get more Savoy? :)

A: I hope so!

My Interview with Savoy...*swoon*

Kelly: Welcome to Belle of the Literati! Thank you so much for stopping by and taking time away from the Seventh and saving the world. Here are a few burning questions the readers would love to know about yourself...

First things first--Describe yourself in 3 words.

Savoy: Why?

K: ...Moving on...If you didn't lead The Seventh (because you've successfully rid the world of all evil with your superb military talents) what would you be doing?

S: More likely than not, getting myself arrested.

K: Probably. Next question. Your brawn and strength is never questioned...so who would win in a fight? You... or a bear?

S: Why in the bloody hell would I fight a bear? 

K: To prove your supremacy? Anways. I hope this isn't too personal, but readers want to know...what do you look for in a woman?

S: I don't.  You want to talk women? - speak with Cory.

K: I will definitely be doing that. It's always a good idea to get on the good side of the friend. He'll give me insider info. Now for the most important question...Can I get a hug? ;)

S: I am certain you can.  Not from me.

Alex Lidell Interviews Me!...

Alex: What three key events inspired your swoon?

Kelly: Easy. The three events are as follows...1. The time Renee has to stay and do 200 push-ups and he stays and does them with her according to her pace (sigh). 2. Any and every moment where he interacts with his brother. And 3. My FAVORITE moment of swoon, when he opens his bedroom door to Renee and Diam...shirtless...sweating...and breathless...I died a little. 

A: Poof!  You are a citizen of Tildor, destined to run into Savoy.  Who are you and under what circumstances do you meet him?  (i.e. "I am a female swords fighter trying out for the Seventh)

K: Ooh, lemme see, this question took some thought. I am a simple maiden running errands for my family shop when I am jumped in an alleyway by some thugs. Savoy comes upon the situation and while I am holding my own in this fight (I'm quite good with the dagger I always keep with me, I've grown up with the dangers of the street), Savoy still comes in, saves the day, rescues me, sees how feisty and strong I am and immediately falls head over heels in love with me. We live happily ever after, by the way ;) *sigh* 

A: If you could have half hour with Savoy at any ONE point in the story, what point would you appear at and what would you do/say?

K: This was so hard!! If I'm being serious it would be when he's shirtless and sweating opening his door to me. I'm content to stare slack-jawed for 30 minutes but if I'm being practical and reminding myself this is a YA book then I would like to spend my 30 minutes with him on the first day of lessons. I would LOVE to have a private lesson on how to fight with a sword and kick major ass. My first words to him? Teach me how to be a force to be reckoned with. *wink*
