My Thoughts
The Belle
When Wicked Abyss showed up in my mailbox I was hesitant. I haven't read any of the other books in this series but heard great things about it. It's book 18 so do I have to start at the beginning, that's overwhelming. When the lovely Steph from No BS Book Reviews told me she read it and loved it and I don't need to read the previous books to enjoy it then I basically jumped on it. She was oh so right.
I freaking LOVED this book! While I knew some characters they mentioned probably had their own history and book, it didn't detract from the current story one bit. The world was easy to grasp and follow and not confusing. I was almost immediately invested in the story. I've read and loved other Kresley Cole novels and this book was no exception in that her writing grabs your attention and she makes you care about the love story. This was no average love story.
Without going into crazy details, the hero, Sian, knows the heroine, Lila, when she was in a past life. Let's just say that didn't end well. The current Lila is nothing like her past self but expectedly, Sian isn't buying it. Which leads to a whooooooole lot of tension and hate-filled moments that slowly turn to love. Lila takes absolutely no shit and her pranks on Sian and her antics trying to escape, oh he kinda kidnapped her, are hilarious! She's smart and doesn't give up. I loved when she gave Sian shit and he just didn't know what to do. It was too adorable and funny for words.
I couldn't get enough of Lila. I loved her personality and her drive. I loved that she had goals and wanted power and her voice to be heard. I loved that Sian loved this about her.Their dynamic and story is very reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast and I don't say that lightly. Cole did a fantastic job of incorporating those themes without overdoing it of feeling contrived. The pacing was on point and I just fell in love with this story and never wanted it to end!
If you're like me and haven't read any of the other books of the series, don't fret, you can still read and love this story all on it's own. And if you're already a huge fan of Immortals After Dark, you definitely will not be disappointed!

You had me at Beauty and the Beast, really. I hadn't heard of this one, but it definitely intrigues me! And I'm happy that you wound up loving it.
