So we have...
VIP
I’m addicted and is an instant favorite. I push this book on any and all readers. In a perfect world, everyone would read and love this book as much as I do. PUSH THE TBR PILE OVER AND PICK UP THIS BOOK! This is the most coveted status I can give to a book.
Backstage Pass
I LOVED it but just fell short of being that ‘oomph’ of amazing. Usually comes down to not being able to fully connect emotionally for one personal reason or another. Definitely add this to your TBR list!
Reserved Seating
I really, really it. It held my attention; I liked the story or characters, maybe even loved part but didn’t pull me into not wanting to put it down. Add this to your TBR list but don’t push over the pile to read it.
General Admission
I liked it. It was a good story or had good characters but it didn’t move me. It was just good enough to like but not love and probably had parts I didn’t like. These books I would recommend to people who either like the genre or idea of the story but not to everyone.
Standing in Line Outside
Meh, it was okay. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t like it. I wouldn’t recommend it but it wasn’t awful. I’m sure some people might enjoy it but I didn’t.
Denied at the Door
Nope, did not like this. Do not recommend. Keep far away from your TBR pile.
Hope this clears up and can clarify the depth of my love for each book I talk about?

I've been agonizing over my own rating system at Pop! Goes The Reader for as long as I can remember but I can never seem to settle on the 'right' one. A scale rating (1-5 stars) is fine, but I often worry it doesn't take into account half ratings or really explain why I rated a book what I did. I also think the interpretation of value ratings can differ from person to person, which makes them all the more problematic. For example, I consider a three star rating perfectly adequate. For me, it indicates a solid, enjoyable, if a little forgettable, story. But for others, three stars are perceived as a negative rating, indicating a massive disappointment at worst or tepid feelings at best. Which is why I love the rating system that you and Hannah have instituted on your respective blogs! They're unique, specific, and really encapsulate how you felt about any given book.
ReplyDeleteFor now I'm sure my rating system will do, but at some point I would love to re-work it to better reflect how I feel, as you have. I guess it's back to the old drawing board ;)
I felt that same way for forever! My thought was the bottom line is, 'do I think you should read this book?' and that was enough. But then Hannah suggested I make a rating system because she was always asking me like, ok no so how quickly should I read that book? And I was feeling a little stagnate with it because the books I liked I think people should read but I wanted a way to convey how much I loved those super special books. And I agree, I think 3 stars for me is a good read! I liked it but it just didn't wow me or really make me think but I still thought it was a good book.
DeleteI struggled for a LONG time trying to think of something creative that would fit my blog and give a good level of understanding for how good I thought the book was and this finally stuck. That means so much that you like it and think it fits! Seriously! You will totally think of an idea when the right one hits you because your blog kicks major ass and you're so creative it will totally come!
I do like the new ratings you've come up with for your rating system! They are definitely different, but also cover a lot of different feelings towards books. I wish I were clever enough to come up with a proper rating system for my blog, but until then, I'll just keep writing those reviews ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha, thank you, A!! Get it, girl! You keep writing those awesome reviews that you do :) :) :)
DeleteAlso, you could always tie in Throne of Glass in some way. Make books you dislike the King and books that are top level amazing Chaol and Celaena :)
DeleteI think this is a great idea and goes along with your blog's theme perfectly! I actually did the same thing recently. Well, I still do my 1-5 star ratings, but I wanted to come up with something that matched my blog's title, so I created a sort of "relationship status" rating to coincide with the star rating. Anyway, I think yours will work great!
ReplyDeleteThis is so clever!
ReplyDeleteIt will work fabulously!
Love it! I'm still trying to decide what to do with my own rating system. It's so hard to come up with something original and uniquely yours. Love yours though! It's so perfect for your blog and for you. :)
ReplyDeleteSo different yet easy to understand, LOVE IT. I also love ratings so that is a bonus :)
