"No life is perfect.
There's always something that hurts, but it's important to appreciate the good things, too...
If it wasn't the end of the world, it'd be something else.
Maybe not this big or terrible, but there are always events in life that can make you unhappy if you let them."

DESTRUCTION
The Year of Souls begins with an earthquake—an alarming rumble from deep within the earth—and it’s only the first of greater dangers to come. The Range caldera is preparing to erupt. Ana knows that as Soul Night approaches, everything near Heart will be at risk.
FLIGHT
Ana’s exile is frightening, but it may also be fortuitous, especially if she can convince her friends to flee Heart and Range with her. They’ll go north, seeking answers and allies to stop Janan’s ascension. And with any luck, the newsouls will be safe from harm’s reach.
CHOICE
The oldsouls might have forgotten the choice they made to give themselves limitless lifetimes, but Ana knows the true cost of reincarnation. What she doesn’t know is whether she’ll have the chance to finish this one sweet life with Sam, especially if she returns to Heart to stop Janan once and for all.
With gorgeous romance and thrilling action, the final book in the Incarnate trilogy offers a brilliant conclusion to the compelling questions of this fascinating world, where one new girl is the key to the lives of millions.

The Belle
The Journey I love the arc of this story. So, so much. Ana begins as an unwanted soul feeling undeserving and incapable of love. I mean, how tragic is that?! The journey she makes is incredible. Factoring in how horrible she was treated her ENTIRE life, it is beyond incredible how she turns out to be this compassionate, empathetic, loving person. She grows so much over three books and she learns to be strong and decisive and fight for what is right. Never does she choose the easy way out, she always chooses the moral high road in order to save the most people she can.
The Second Chance I love the idea of the second chance in this book. While reincarnation is at the forefront of this story, you would think the idea of second chances not that exciting. But the stakes are at their peak in that for the old souls, death might just be the end for them. This is a terrifying concept for them and for Ana who has no life other than this one she was given. I loved that the old souls talked about redemption and not taking things for granted. I thought it was a beautiful and unexpected twist to the story that really opened up a discussion for me about perceptions of situations.
The End I think this was a fantastic conclusion for the series. Questions are answered. Issues are resolved. Do we get our happily ever after? Well, you'll just have to read to find out.

The Beast
The Circumstances I found a lot of the progression of the story to come a little too easy. I won't give away plot points but some of the things that Ana is able to accomplish just seemed to come by easier than I would have anticipated. She does some amazing things but I felt like if we are arguing realism, things came just a bit too easy for her.
The Old Souls While I loved the idea of the second chances and not taking things for granted, I couldn't help but be a little more than irritated that the old souls got all shocked and bothered about NOT being reincarnated. I mean, that is NOT the normal way of things and they even address that. It bothered me they were now so protective of their lives when, well, you really only should and do live once. Make it count.
The Thrill While I read this book pretty quickly and was invested in what was happening, I just didn't feel the excitement to pick up the book and keep reading. I felt like the first two really captured my attention and I didn't want to put it down, this one kept me interested but didn't have me dying to know what was going to happen next.

Should You RSVP To This Ball?
Yes This is a fantastic conclusion to an exciting and unique series. The topic of Incarnate cannot be duplicated and the overall story arc is one to look into if you love science fiction.
I totally know what you mean about enjoying this one, but not dying to know what was going to happen next. While I felt like this was the perfect ending to the series, I didn't get that sense of satisfaction that I get from finishing other series, and I think it was because everything just kind of...happened. The sense of urgency I was expecting just wasn't there.
ReplyDeleteI love this series so much. I think Jodi has such a great writing style. I didn't think this was the best book of the series, though. I really loved the first one the most. I was happy with the ending but it was not surprising at all, actually I predicted it.
