The Belle
When I saw Anne Gracie had a new book in a new series I was beyond fangirling. Since getting The Perfect Rake as a Christmas gift and falling in love with it and every book of hers since, there’s been now 9 total, I was SO excited to get this for review! This new series is about marriages of convenience and it did not disappoint.
While it felt a bit different from her previous books, i.e. the hero and heroine don’t get together until quite far in the book, I loved it nonetheless. It focused a lot on the hero, Cal, who is the new Lord Ashendon after his—worthless—brother dies suddenly. With the role he didn’t want he is also now guardian of two half-sisters who run wild. Enter Miss Westwood and we get our story. But there’s so much more than that. A lot of the focus is on the family dynamic at first and I LOVED this! I loved seeing Cal interact with his sisters and them butt heads. I loved watching Emm—Miss Westwood—be her badass self and totally reign them in and Cal looking confused. It was great. I loved seeing these somewhat strangers related by blood come together and become a family. Their loyalty to one another was just incredible and THIS is exactly on par with Gracie’s other novels. The emphasis on family and loyalty was incredible.
Emm was exactly the kind of heroine I love to read about. Slightly older, convinced she will live a life alone and has nearly given up all hope of finding love and family, and out of nowhere somebody comes into her life to make her realize she doesn't have to be so alone anymore. I loved her strength and intelligence and knowledge of her own self-worth. She was on point with all other Anne Gracie heroines in that she is a fantastic woman who is independent and knows her worth...my favorite kind.
The romance was no slouch though. Emm gives it back as good as Cal can give it out and their banter was top notch. She takes zero shit and I loved this about her. A woman who has been alone without family for years and thought herself destined for spinsterhood falling in love with a handsome Lord was just the best. The best, the best, the best.
If you love historical romance and strong family dynamics, this book is definitely for you and you 100% need to check out Anne Gracie!

I still have to read her other series (the one with the seasons in the title), but this one also sounds really fun ;) It's been a while since I've been in the mood for historical romance, but I'm sure that'll come back around one day!
