Adventures in the Great Wide Somewhere // Travel Trinkets

One of the questions I got while doing my Q&A was what do I do with all the trinkets and ticket stubs I keep. There's a few things I've done with them so far, I'm sure there are a lot more creative ideas but I haven't delved into the Pinterest world to see what other people, this is what I've come up with so far.

Cork Board
This so far has been my favorite idea. I found the cute patterned cork board at Target at random and the idea just came to me. The cute push pins are also Target. To preface this, everything I keep from traveling goes in a memory box I have. It's big, I've kept it since high school and everything of importance I keep in that so that is what I went through to pick out which tickets and plane stubs to put on here. I wish I could have added more but theses are some of my favorite locations I've been to and it took more time than I'd like to admit to arrange it for my anal retentiveness to be happy. I always keep my boarding stubs because it's fun to remember where I've been. I was also really excited to be able to prop up that sword I got in Toledo. I bought it now knowing what I was gonna do with it and this board came in quite handy. I love this board, it's a beautiful and instant visual reminder of my travels and fun places I've been.

Memory Box
I'll touch on this just another moment as I mentioned it above. Everything that I haven't found a place for, tickets, programs, other small souvenirs, go in the memory box. It's not a permanent or the best location but it's still a designated place to put everything once I get home. And I do pull this out frequently just to look through it and it always bring a smile to my face about a lot of places or attractions I forgot about.

Shadow Box
Like the cork board, I love walking by this. It's one of my favorite travel quotes on a map that Ellice got me for my birthday. I seriously treasure this thing. When I was going through my memory box for the ticket stubs I came across a lot of foreign currency. Knowing I wanted to put this quote in a frame, while I was browsing TJ Maxx for one I saw this shadow box and thought I could kill two birds with one stone. It was hilarious trying to watch my line these coins up but the end result is gorgeous. I love this thing and I'd grab it in a fire if God forbid my house ever burned down.

Combine Trinkets
As you can also see in the picture, the leftover money I had I put in the small dish/bowl I got in Portugal. I legit don't even know what I'm gonna do with the stuff I acquire when I buy it, all I know is I will find a way to use it. This beautiful dish from Lisbon came in perfectly when I was wondering what to do with the extra currency I had.

Journal Display
Also another random find at Target, when I saw this I knew exactly how I could use to it to finally fine a home for all my travel journals. Obviously, that dish gets moved around a bit, as do those African wood sculptures because they're constantly falling but again I digress. Seriously, the top of this dresser is my absolute favorite. It is daily inspiration and instant memories of the places I've been.

Decorate With Them
As you can see with my African man and woman and my Moroccan lamp, I just put them out. Not everything has to look like a Pinterest picture. I bought those knowing they would sit on a shelf and I didn't care. When I have my own home one day I know I'll work them into the theme of the room and it'll be a fun reminder to myself that that decorative piece actually came from a foreign country. It's the little things, right?

What do you guys do with your travel trinkets, tickets and souvenirs?

  1. I love all of these ideas a whole lot, Kel! I think they're all really creative, fun ways to display your travel trinkets :) I usually collect postcards from my trips, and I just keep all of them in a big box similar to your memory box. I also have a few other little things that I love using as shelf decorations!

    1. Thank you so much, Lex!! Love the memory box, it's so easy and I didn't even think to put them on a shelf as decorations! I'll have to do that!

  2. These ideas are wonderful. I've been trying to come up with ideas for my trinkets and ticket stubs from my travels. I just got a "travel box" since everything is currently in a drawer & that cork board idea is the perfect thing for my tickets. I don't know if you've see them before, but Uncommon Goods sells ticket stub journals. They're great too for some of your other stubs you don't want to display, but want to keep in tact. :)
