Darkness Is A Beautiful Thing {The Beauty of Darkness Blog Tour}

The Beauty of Darkness is almost here!!!!! I can still remember being graced with an ARC of The Kiss of Deception, reading it immediately, and being obsessed every since. I have loved this series since it's inception and I am so excited to be a part of the final book's blog tour and to shut it down as the final stop! The book is only a few days old so I hope everyone is reading it or about to read it! (I'm currently on my road trip home so my re-reading and reading has been delayed...waaaaah!)

I've had the opportunity to meet Mary and Google Hangout with her and she is seriously one of the most genuine and kind human beings I've ever met. I am so excited to have her here on my blog today to answer a question about love triangles. Yep, I went there and this time I'm getting an author's perspective.


Thank you so, so much for stopping by and answering my question Mary! As you know, The Kiss of Deception series is one my favorites! The characters you've created and the way you write these books are truly phenomenal. There is so much heat behind multiple love interests and changing emotions so I would love to know why you think love triangles or multiple love interests in young adult books is a positive thing?

I don’t necessarily think it is a positive thing—I think it is a REALISTIC thing. I think the term “love triangle” can be misleading. It implies that all sides are equal, and that all parties are potentially interested. The truth is, I don’t think there is a single person alive who has not been part of a “love triangle” at some point, most likely, unwittingly. Probably more than once!

In The Heart of Betrayal, Lia laments the imbalance and timing of love and wishes that “love could be simple, that it was always given and returned in the same measure.”

It reminds me of all the crushes I had in high school, the guys who I “loved” (okay, adored, cherished, swooned over) but they hardly knew I existed. Their sights were on someone else.

Or the opposite, the ones who made it known they were attracted to me, but I was interested in someone else and didn’t return their attentions—at least not in the way they wanted me to. Did I ever feel like I was in a triangle? No. It didn’t even enter my mind. I knew who I wanted to be with. As does Lia. I think it is only in literature that we use this phrase. Really, have you ever heard anyone say, “I am caught up in a love triangle”? Me either.

There are relationship complications of all kinds, and sometimes they involve love. Toss in friendship, politics, business, or other factors that throw characters together, and the complications multiply like rabbits.

In my head when I was asking the questions I was also thinking that positive and realistic were synonymous. I was nodding my head in agreement the whole time I was reading your response! We've all been the recipient of unrequited love and we've all had people interested in us that we do not feel the same way about. Thank you so much for stopping by and answering my question!
