And They Lived Happily Ever After...RIGHT?!

So this week's Top Ten Tuesday hosted by the Broke and the Bookish felt a little ambiguous to me. Hannah initially alerted me to this topic by asking how I would define a character-driven novel and I immediately had a few books come to mind. Why? Because my definition and the books I'm going to list fall under this distinction:

I don't give a shit what happens in the rest of the book, I just NEED these characters to be together/okay

So there you have it. These are my top ten books for people looking for character driven novels and while most of them have amazing plot content, at the end of the day I don't care. I just want the characters to have a happily ever after...The End.

My Thoughts While Reading:
WWII. Sieges. Family Drama. I don't give a fuck WHAT happens as long as Tatiana and Alexander end up together.

My Thoughts While Reading:
The FEELS! I can't handle these feels! Can these two just PLEASE heal each other already?! I CAN'T TAKE THIS!

My Thoughts While Reading:
No. No. No. No. No. Make it stop. FIX THIS SOREN. FUCK YOU WESLEY. NORA I LOVE YOU.

My Thoughts While Reading:
There are a ton of characters and I can honestly say I love every single one of them...fuck, I hope they all make it through this series.

My Thoughts While Reading:
Gaia and Leon...GAIA AND LEON!!! Everyone else be damned, I need these two to be okay!

My Thoughts While Reading:
Whoa....holy....friggin....intense...This is an epic love story and if this all doesn't work out there is going to be HELL to pay.

My Thoughts While Reading:
World building be damned JUST GIVE ME MORE OF CHAPTER 62!

My Thoughts While Reading:
Alison I feel you girl....I FEEL YOU. Oh my gosh, do your thing and go after what you want!

My Thoughts While Reading:
Married. Children. Temporary. Infidelity. Fuck it all and create your own universe. The rest of the world will get over it.

My Thoughts While Reading:
Jojo, I don't know what this dysfunctional relationship you and I have entered into but you BREAK my HEART yet I still continue to come back to you! Give these people a happily ever after PLEASE!!!!

So there's my psycho rambling.
What books were all about the characters to you?!

  1. I still need to read a Jojo Moyes book!! EEE. Also, I plan to start The Bronze Horseman sometime in the next month or so because of you! I bought it when it was cheap on Kindle and it's time I think. I also have Sea of Tranquility and Just One Day on my list. Thinking of binge reading the Laini Taylor series in December! I hear the writing is amaaaazing!

    1. Hah, so as I was reading your post Kelly and composing a comment in my head, I scroll down here and see Jamie has written basically the exact same thing! :) I think The Bronze Horseman will be my next purchase; I hope to get to it soon but my Master's program is getting in the way of things a bit. I've also had The Sea of Tranquility on my next up list because of you and Hannah. I think I might try The Daughter of Smoke and Bone as well this month for something kind of spooky. (I don't like REAL scary reads, demons is about as close as I like to get!)

  2. Hell yes for TSoT and the Shatter Me books. Give me another chapter 55 (Ignite Me) too! That is still one of the hottest YA scenes I've read ;)

  3. I am so with you for Jojo Moyes! I would have broken up with her if Jess was not happy in the end!

  4. I love your TTT, K! Seeing your thoughts just made me even MORE eager to read the books I haven't yet on this list (which is quite a few, but I SWEAR they're on the TBR). They also made me smile or want to reread when I read the ones for the books I HAVE read - Just One Day, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Ignite Me - mostly because I felt the same way!

  5. The Discovery of Witches, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Just One Day - love these books. And The Sea of Tranquility - that was a character-driven if there ever was one. So good.
