Long live the King…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle--with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything--and everyone--at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response--or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?
Wrath and Beth OBVIOUSLY!!!! OMG can we just stop with how much I love them!?! And it's not all perfect so don't go thinking they are living in a fairy tale happily ever after. But that's why I love them, too! They are real. They have real issues they need to talk and work through and at the end of they love each other so incredibly much that is just breaks your heart in the best way. Beth is smart and capable and independent and fierce and she is just awesome! She loves her mate and she stands up to him in a way nobody else EVER could and I love it. He defers to her on a lot and it is beautiful. Long live the King and Queen.

The Flashbacks We get flashbacks of Wrath's father and mother and they are amazing! I loved reading about his rule and what he went through. And how he fell in love with Wrath's mother! *sigh* We also get a glimpse at a few Brothers from way back when. Loved it. And the lengths Wrath senior goes to to protect his shellan is amazing and heart-wrenching and beautiful. Breaks my heart how little time they had together...*sniff*

Assail Holy surprise, Batman. Assail stole this story for me...CRAZY, I KNOW! I could not get enough of him and Sola. I looked forward to their chapters most of all because of how much he loves this female human. It is just so adorable. This makes me sound crazy and like a neanderthal but I don't care. I love that a man wants to get violent in order to protect his female. There is something very primal and base in me that makes me love this. Sorry to all the feminists out there that may have a problem with this. I am all about independence and female worth but fucking hell if I don't love a man to assert his physical dominance. Hot.

Xcor ...eeep! Sorry! I'm sorry! I need him to have redemption! I want it! Just be a better person Xcor! Please! There is a scene with him shopping for clothes that just GUTS me because he is so vulnerable and awkward and holy hell I just want to hug him. I hate myself a little for this...really I do but I cannot help it.

The Politics Loooove the Saxton and the Rehv and how they help Wrath (and Beth, too obviously!). The Council are a bunch of dickheads and I love how this storyline plays out and what happens in the book.

The Language I only really noticed this in the beginning, but the first 70 pages or so of the novel was so heavy with abbreviations and "bro talk" if you will, it felt really over the top for me. It felt like a parody of slang of the 2000s and had me eye rolling a little bit. The rest of the book was totally fine in terms of this so I'm unsure why it was so heavy handed in the beginning but it was just something I noticed that made me eyebrow raise sometimes.  And the mention of the women wearing turtlenecks. It's 2014, women aren't wearing turtlenecks anymore and the fashionista in me just cringes at this but to each their own on the fashion front.

OH! It ended...I'm pretty pissed about that. Where's the next book?

Yes!! Long live the Black Dagger Brotherhood. If you haven't started these books, get to it!! They are amazing and I love each and every one of them! WHERE IS THE NEXT BOOK?!!?

  2. Haha See told you I would pop in... I love your review but you're killing me girl. I literally want to drop everything and re-read the whole series now. My TBR pile is over my head lol. I need more time in the damn day lol. Warth and Belle are my favorite out of all the BDB. I guess because they were the first couple and thats what made me love the series. But don't get me wrong I got room in my heart for all the other brothers too hehe. xo

    1. Yay! So happy to see you here :) :) Haha, my job is complete because you SHOULD drop everything (except small children and animals) to read this book and yeah, throw the whole series in for good measure :) I do want to re-read Dark Lover and Lover Awakened super soon. I need Z in my life once again. And I totally agree about Wrath and Beth being the favorites because they are the original. I love them both and Wrath is my second favorite Brother!...even though yes, I also have room for all of them :)

  3. I LOVED the Xcor shopping for clothes scene! He still doesn't totally have that redemption yet but you know, if JR Ward keeps on, she may give it to him. LOVED the clothes scene. Glad you mentioned that. And those flashbacks were MAN OH MAN in the beginning! Smart writing but gutwrenching for ME. Because i'm an overly emotional reader!

OMG I noticed the language too! There is normally a bit of the bro talking but this one was a little more! Funny you noted that because I thought maybe it was just getting on my nerves (because I was listening and reading at the same time, OMGGGG).

That ending was pretty crazy. Stirring the pot, no? WHAT IS NEXT FOR THESE BROTHERS? Who the heck even knows. Now DANGIT another whole freakin year.

    1. OK! It wasn't just me about all the bro talk! I was feeling really discombobulated while reading like, has it always been this heavy with the abbrevs? That shopping scene...totally did me in. I wanna hug and kiss the face off of that scarred man. Wowza. I cannot WAIT for the next book. GAH JOHN MATTHEW!!!!! Z!!!!!!! BABIES!!!!
