Goodreads Description

At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her--and she's forced to decide what her next move should be.

Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

A passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance, Maybe Someday will immerse readers in Sydney's tumultuous world from the very first page.
The Writing Colleen Hoover. Oh my, heart, where do I begin. I'm not going to lie to you. I was hesitant and also eagerly anticipating reading this. I haven't read the Slammed series yet (I'm going to right after this review don't you worry) because I LOVE Hopeless so freakin' much, it is hard to wrap my head around loving anything as hard and as much as that series. Oh, why do I doubt you Colleen Hoover. You destroy my heart and manipulate my emotions in the best way possible. The way Colleen writes is some kind of incredible. The voices of her characters are so distinct. So honest. So real. I completely felt immersed in Sydney and Ridge's world and had that moment of confusion looking up after reading. Where am I?...You feel so completely with these characters that my heart was just aching with them.

Sydney It is not a spoiler to say the first page of the book opens with her legit punching her ex-BFF and cheating boyfriend in the face. Right hook for the win. I was in bookish friendship love with this girl immediately. Sydney is reactionary but when she talks through some very COMPLICATED situations, she is so understanding and rational. While I think to the extent of how understanding she is at times is a little far-fetched for a 22 year old, I deeply appreciated how mature she was. Sydney loves so deeply and so truly that her main concern will always be for that person she loves well-being. Rarely does she think of herself in the matter. And isn't that what true love is all about? Putting another person's needs and feelings before your own? *sigh*

The Characters Colleen, again, fails to give me a character in one of her books that isn't fleshed out and that I haven't loved. Even her secondary characters have their own complexities. Even characters you WANT to dislike have you rooting for them. These characters are not perfect, nobody is, but what I love is the maturity she gives them as well as ALL the emotions. This is one of her many strengths as a writer and it makes her books that much better for wanting to know more about every person that graces her pages.

The Connection How Colleen writes her romances and lost stories is one of a kind. She builds up the tension and you're falling in love with the characters as they fall in love with each other. She does this SO WELL. I loved inner dialogue of what they were thinking. It felt very honest and real. The emotions were raw. The turmoil was real. Nothing yet everything went right. I loved the juxtaposition and warring emotions about what was right and what was...right.

The Betrayal I need to confess something that isn't really a confession. I HATE reading about infidelity in books. After a few recent book in particular has me not wanting to read anything having to do with cheating of any kind. Never would I be able to read and empathize with a character who cheats. Colleen, again, has opened up my eyes a little bit. OBVIOUSLY nobody agrees with cheating, however I have come to be not so judgmental in my bookish picks. There is most definitely a gray area involved with matters of the heart. Far be it from me to judge others for their choices and this book helped me to not feel so black and white about a very complicated subject. I feel like the way Colleen writes this story is one of compassion, understanding, and so well done that it has even me re-thinking how I viewed things. I loved that she explored a situation of changing feelings, differing opinions on the direction one's life should go, the fact that we change as people over time, our needs for what we need in partners changes.  Obviously I am NOT an advocate for cheating AT ALL, but I have come to realize that people's emotions are not something to be pigeon-holed in any way, shape, or form. I believe I was doing this previously and I don't even want to be judgmental on any topic because reading in general has changed my views on so many different subjects and I'm just adding this to the list.

The...There is a part of the story that comes to light and deals with something I know a lot about. But I cannot talk about it because it is a MAJOR SPOILER so I will not. Just know there was a certain issue that I think could have gone down very differently and still have the intended effect.

Yes I'm about to binge read the Slammed series because Colleen Hoover can do no wrong in my book right now. If you love complex characters, complicated emotional situations, and characters you can fall in love with, this is a book for you.

  1. AHH I want this book so bad! I haven't been able to get it and it is killing me.

Also, I may not punch them in the face, but I would probably do something equally passive aggressive!

  2. YAY! I love that you loved this book! I was nervous considering I know how you feel about cheating books! Colleen Hoover wrote it soooo well and I'm glad you appreciated the same things I appreciated in the way she handled it and showed the emotional struggle. Definitely not always a black and white issue! <3

  3. I don't read a lot of NA, but I'm finding myself fascinated by the premise of Maybe Someday! It's a major bonus to hear that you loved the characters, which is something that I feel is important when it comes to any book. I might have to check this one out for myself too!

  8. I have been told this is an Asheley book...but it was followed up with something like but I'm not really sure that I like it...so I didn't really pick it up yet. I don't really have the issue with the cheating in books because I am able to read the story and stay separated enough that it doesn't affect me, strangely enough, because I tend to get VERY emotionally attached to my characters. Anyway, that's a great book discussion to have sometime. But, yeah, I need to read this one because I think I'll probably like it a lot. OR AT THE VERY LEAST find it very discussable, which is my favorite thing ever.

    1. Totally! I mean, everyone reacts to things in a different way so I think you'll really like it. It's not as intense as Hopeless in my opinion but there are a LOT of feels and a LOT of gray areas. I love being able to discuss books that make me think about my previous opinions and thoughts on things.
