Flashback Friday--The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn

Flashback Friday hosted by Fiction Fare and Swoony Boys Podcast

In case you don't already know, Flashback Friday hosted by the lovely ladies above is to showcase books you've read or books you want to read that have been published at least 2 years ago.

This week I am highlighting a book I just recently read--The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn by Robin Maxwell. I LOVE Anne Boleyn. Many of you know this. This book is about her daughter Elizabeth being gifted her mother's diary while she is Queen. This book is really, really good! I got a little bored in the middle whenever we switched back to Elizabeth's story because, duh, I wanted ALL the Anne Boleyn!

The diary was, obviously, my favorite part. Anne's inner thoughts are so insightful and surprising! I KNOW this book isn't fact, but Robin Maxwell's take on it was amazing! I loved reading Anne's commentary about her feelings for Henry and ultimately the betrayal. I loved the narrative from the woman who was with her at the end and how gracious she stayed even in the face of death. Her inner strength, sharp tongue, and ability to call the King out was freakin' awesome. This bitch did not back down and I LOVED it. I loved her growth from a second daughter who was deemed useless except for marrying well...to ruling over all. Especially those who wronged her previously. Love love love this.

If you love Anne Boleyn or the Tudor era, you will love this book.
