"I walked down the ramp and across the bridges,
striding in plain sight towards the Pit,
my sword strapped to my back
and my face set into a blank, don't fuck with my mask."

Goodreads Description
VENGEANCE WILL BE HERS
Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?
With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.
MONSTER
Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions—her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost—the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.
In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

Kanan Kanan, to me, has been the most amazing character in the entire series. He definitely takes even more of an observant role in this final installment but I still find him to be the most complex and interesting character. Hey Julie, how about a prequel series ALL about Kanan? Thoughts? Anyone else on board for this? It has to be sexy though, Julie. Lots of sexiness. Anyways. I can't get enough of his quest for redemption for the sins of his past. He is beautiful and deep and wants so badly to atone for what he has done and his guardianship-esque role over Allison makes my heart bleed.
Allison I continue to be in awe of Allison's awesomeness. I think she is also a fantastically complex character who is developed beautifully throughout the series. Her constant inner turmoil over keeping a grasp on humanity and giving in to the monster inside her is the highlight of this series for me. I love reading about the battle she has within herself. I think she rationalizes things perfectly and always strives to do the right thing.
Jackal Can you tell I love the characters? For a book that has lots of action, it is the characters that make me love this series. Jackal is NO exception and he is the BEST! His constant comic relief and one-liners had me rolling in laughter. No joke. I was laughing out loud. I loved how he always tried to morally corrupt Allison and everyone else. He made a very serious book a little lighter.
The Plot I really enjoyed what happened in this book. I think the plot went where it needed to go and the progression and steps it took to get there made complete sense. The conflict involved and the road blocks along the way helped develop the plot and the story the way it needed to be.
The Romance The romance is pretty fantastic...and that's all I can say with no spoilers.

The Pacing It took me a little bit to get into this book. It wasn't until about 28-30% that I really looked forward to reading this. I don't know if I was in a mood or coming off The Kiss of Deception high but I wasn't feeling this book in the beginning. It felt slow-moving and I wanted things to start happening. Kind of like, let's get on with it already.
Yes I like the Blood of Eden series. I think this is an amazing ending to the series and am super content with how everything went down. I won't say this is a must-read series or that you have to push over your TBR pile to read but it is really enjoyable. The characters are developed really well. The plot is fast-paced overall. And the story arc completes a full circle.
Loved this book. Julie has renewed my faith in the trilogy, which has been severely hampered this past year. I thought the ending was great and just where it needed to go. I also loved Allie, she was the reason I wanted to keep reading this series for sure. Kick butt, smart and sassy, gotta love that combo. Plus, she's funny (and I loved her relationship with Jackal in this book). Great review!
ReplyDeleteAllie and Kanan were totally the reason I kept going with this series. Amazing ending and Jackal really surprised me!
DeleteI've been waiting for The Immortal Rules to come in at my library. I have heard such good things about this series and to see that it ends well makes me all the more motivated to start reading. I love that there is plenty of action but great characters and romance as well. So excited!
ReplyDeleteIt does end well! Allie and Kanan make the series for me. The romance goes in and out to be honest but the character development of the main people is amazing!
